This Week at Christ Church
Kids' Praise This Sunday
Last meeting before we sing in church
Kids' Praise will meet this Sunday, November 24 in Hinde Hall at 10:00 a.m. The children are scheduled to sing at church on December 22 so it's important they attend this Sunday's gathering. Children will return to their families in church at 10:30 a.m. Questions??? Contact Charlette Preslar, Director of Youth and Family Ministries - (619) 435-4561.
Fr. Mac's Last Sunday Service
Let's give him a hearty thank you
Christ Church has been blessed by the work of Fr. Mac Collins since August this year. Fr. Mac graciously agreed to step in to officiate Sunday services, day school chapels, funerals, to provide pastoral care to members of our parish family, and more. Fr. Mac and his wife Connie might be taking some well-deserved time to themselves, but they'll return soon to join the congregation. Please take a moment to offer your thanks and appreciation this Sunday.
Outreach
Advent Angels Arrive
Toys are rolling in
Advent Angel gifts are arriving every day - such a collection of fun and imaginative toys ! The toys you donate benefit low-income families served by Episcopal Community Service's Head Start programs. We are the only church in the Diocese that supports ECS Head Start South Bay families with Christmas gifts.

Choose a "gift" card from the angels, on the Hinde Hall porch, for a girl or boy ages 3, 4, or 5. While you're out doing some holiday shopping purchase a gift ($10-$15) for that child and return it unwrapped, with the Angel card attached, to Hinde Hall by or on December 8.

We'll be wrapping all the gifts on our service Sunday, December 8, after the 10 a.m. service ONLY . This is a fun day and you'll want to take part.

Thanksgiving Food Drive
Well done one and all!
With the amazing support of parishioners, day school families, and friends of Christ Church, nearly 220 bags of Thanksgiving dinner items and grocery gift cards have been distributed this week for families who can use a leg-up this Thanksgiving holiday. Your donations go to:

Upcoming Events
Thanksgiving Service
Thursday, November 28, 2019
Thanksgiving brings families together, so put your turkey in the oven, then gather your family and join with the Christ Church family to give thanks for all of our many blessings. Our Thanksgiving service begins at 10:00 a.m. This year's offering will go to St. Mark's to help fund their Joy to the World breakfast.

On December 24 St. Mark’s hosts this festive annual event for their neighbors. The day began with showers, breakfast, haircuts and clothing giveaway for their homeless neighbors. This is followed by a hot holiday luncheon, carol singing, and backpack giveaway for 60+ people.

Your generosity will be much appreciated and will be put to good use.
Parish Breakfast - December 1
Celebrate Advent 1 and Fr. Mike's arrival!
It's been a while since we've come together at a Sunday parish breakfast, but what better way to celebrate the arrival of Rev. Michael Tinnon who will serve as our Interim Rector during our time of transition.

A breakfast of butter pecan french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage, and fruit, will be served in Hinde Hall at 9:00 a.m., Sunday, December 1. We hope everyone will plan to attend, but we'd like to have a heads' up for planning sake, so be sure to send us a quick RSVP.

Advent Wreath Workshop
Sunday, December 1 - after both services
Look for the wreath-making area in the courtyard after both the 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. services, Sunday, December 1, to make your Advent wreath on this first Sunday in Advent.

We'll supply the wreath form, basic pine greens, and candles. You can help out by bringing some extra greens - magnolia leaves, holly, boxwood, juniper, and pine cones. If you have an extra pair of garden clippers for cutting greens, please bring them along to share. And, of course, if you have your styrofoam wreath from last year bring it with you to re-use!

Family First - Advent 1
December 1, 2019
The first Sunday in Advent is a busy one and it's Family First Sunday! We hope families choose to begin Advent with their Christ Church family. Children are invited to learn more about Advent and work on a craft, Sunday, December 1, Plan to arrive by 9:30 a.m. and meet in the day school science lab. Children will join their parents in church after all the fun.

Look for Charlette Preslar in the courtyard Sundays during Advent. She will have lots of resources for you and your family to use at home during the weeks leading up to Christmas.

The Redemption of Scrooge
Advent Book Study
This Advent, you are invited to join your Christ Church family as we explore,  The Redemption of Scrooge , from Matt Rawle’s, This 4-week Advent study shows us how the teachings of Jesus can be found in Dickens’ Christmas classic. From the ghosts of Christmas past, to the Life of the present, and the resurrection of Christmas future, this study will “bless us every one” and reinvigorate our spiritual journeys as we look at this familiar story through the lens of faith.

There will be two offerings for this book study . There will be a gathering in Hinde Hall on Monday mornings, December 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 8:00-9:00 a.m. The second will be an online offering via Zoom meetings. Join the conversation from your home on Monday evenings, December 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. The Redemption of Scrooge is also available in a youth format, appropriate for youth in grades 6-12. Youth are invited and encouraged to be part of this program!

If you would like to be part of this Advent offering, please purchase your book through Amazon , and email Charlette to reserve your spot for the weekly conversation.

Stewardship Campaign
We Are Family
Though we have officially concluded our annual stewardship campaign, it's not too late to submit your pledge for 2020.

Prayerfully consider joining your parish family in support of the mission and ministries of Christ Church in the year to come.

Do you have questions about where you are for your 2019 pledge? Give Christie Tugend, Parish Administrator a call (619) 435-4561 for a quick update.

Holidays at the Thrift Shop
Hours and donation schedules
The first weekend Christmas Boutique proved to be a rousing success. Shoppers filled the shop for the entire 4 hours on Saturday. The Thrift Shop netted over $3,000 - a record for this event! Don't despair, if you missed the big day, there are still plenty of Christmas goodies to be had.

The Thrift Shop is once again collecting donations. The shop will be closed Wednesday, November 27 and Thursday, November 28 for Thanksgiving and will close December 23 for the Christmas holidays. The shop will reopen Saturday, January 4, 2020 (yikes!) at 10:00 a.m.

Of course, don't forget the shop when you undertake your new year clean out. However, we ask that you drop off donations only during Thrift Shop business hours, Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Your donations and patronage have enabled the shop to raise over $100,000 in recent years. The Thrift Shop supports ministries within the parish, day school, the diocese, waaaay beyond.

Congratulations, Charlette
Diocesan recognition
We'd like to congratulate our own Charlette Preslar on the Servant Ministry Award she received at the recent Diocesan Convention in Palm Desert.

Charlette is a Christ Church, Coronado superstar! She heads our formation and family ministries, leads the spiritual life of Christ Church Parish Day School, and serves as the diocesan youth missioner. As a leader, she is dynamic, hands-on and inspiring. Not only does she manage all the programs from pre-kindergarten through high school, she also leads the parish in fellowship meals, nurtures partnerships with other congregations and is a supportive presence to the entire body of Christ Church. Her life is a model of faithful devotion to God and his call to service. We can think of no one more deserving than Charlette! Thank you!

Not Able to Make it to Church?
3 things to DO....
Some Sundays you just can't make it to church. In that case, here are three things you can do:
  • Watch the Sunday service on our live-stream, both the 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. - via the website
  • Each week's Sunday bulletins for both services are also available on the website "Worship" page.
  • Sermons are usually posted on the homepage of the website. under "News".

Remember, the live-stream is just that, it broadcasts the services in real time, no recording is currently available.
