Beware of Malicious COVID-19 Phishing Scams

In the wake of emergency assistance available to help small businesses in response to the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), the SBA is urging disaster loan applicants seeking federal aid to be alert to phishing campaigns and scams. These malicious actors are impersonating the SBA and its Office of Disaster Assistance to collect personally identifiable information (PII) for fraudulent purposes.

Chamber Alliance of the Mohawk Valley (New)

The Mohawk Valley SBDC is a proud affiliate partner of the Chamber Alliance of the Mohawk Valley. The Chamber Alliance is an association of independent chambers of commerce and organizations that meets monthly for information sharing, mutual support, advocacy, education, and joint planning.

In the past few months, the Alliance hosted a county leaders forum, a tourism summit, and mayors round table. Stay tuned to our newsletter for more informative meetings!
Rotary Club of Utica - Pride of Workmanship Awards

The Rotary Club of Utica is soliciting nominations from the community for this year’s Pride of Workmanship Awards Program. The awards recognize outstanding contributions by employees in all businesses, industries and organizations.

Manufacturing Reimagined

The New York Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NY MEP) is hosting a new series of webinars and workshops over the upcoming year to help manufacturers manage the challenges created by COVID-19, emerge from the crisis more resilient and adaptable, and prepare for future emergencies.

New York state manufacturers who participate in this program will:

  • gain increased knowledge and skillsets on timely and crucial topics
  • establish connections to resources to address challenges or opportunities
  • have the opportunity to receive funds to help support a specific project related to the workshop/webinar topics preparing for the challenges of today and beyond.

Oneida County Microenterprise Grant Program

Mohawk Valley EDGE has announced the Oneida County Microenterprise Program. Grants from $5,000 to $35,000 are available.

  • Businesses must be in the manufacturing, warehousing and distribution, agri-business, high-tech, research and development and traditional and innovative small business sectors 
  • Must employ five or fewer employees, including the business owner(s)
  • Must be located within Oneida County, but outside of the CDBG entitlement cities of Utica and Rome 
  • Project must result in either the creation or retention of jobs which are available to low- to moderate income (LMI) persons as defined by Office of Community Renewal guidelines
  • Applicant must present a reasonable likelihood for long-term viability based upon issues such as feasibility, marketability, management, competition, and capitalization
  • Funds must be used for the purchase of capital assets such as machinery and equipment, or working capital 
  • Utilization of funds must be eligible pursuant to the guidelines governing the CDBG program
Herkimer County IDA Microenterprise Grant Fund

The Herkimer County Industrial Development Agency is pleased to announce the development of a Microenterprise Grant Fund. Funding from the state in the amount of $200,000 will be granted to small and start-up businesses with five or fewer employees, that want to establish or expand a new or existing business located within Herkimer County. Grant amounts will range from $5,000 to $35,000, depending upon job creation and owner’s income status.
