A rare model by Francisco Zúñiga from 1970, a creative period of subjects by the artist. This cast, number 2 in the edition, was selected for exhibition in 1971 at The Fine Art Museum of San Diego and The Phoenix Art Museum. It is illustrated in the accompanying exhibition catalog.

Francisco Zúñiga's art -- sculpture, painting and drawing -- reflects a love and respect for Central American people and traditions. His work is generally composed of nudes or robed female figures of peasant stock with scrawny or stocky bodies, unfamiliar to classical sculpture. Continuing to cast in bronze throughout his life, Zúñiga expanded his range of mediums, sculpting in Carrara marble and alabaster.

Francisco Zúñiga drew several notable commissions and is well-represented in major museum collections, including those of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and Mexico City, the Phoenix Art MuseumThe Fine Arts Museum of San DiegoHarvard UniversityPonce Art Museum, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C.
