"SUPERB" New Releases from Classic Napa Icon Frank Family
Dear Artisans,
We are happy to announce the return of some excellent wines: Frank Family Winery is back! Rarely sold outside of their tasting room, this upscale Napa Valley winery known for its rich, buttery Chardonnay was just sold last year to Treasury Wine Estates. Founded in 1992 by former Disney Studios President Rich Frank and his wife Leslie, Frank Family currently produces more than 150,000 cases of wine per year, far more than its small winery in Calistoga can accommodate. “We were growing so fast and we almost couldn’t catch up with the demand for the product,” said Rich Frank. “To keep up with what we built here, we need to make a lot of capital expenditures.” The Treasury company already owns several of the valley’s most famous and historic estates: Beringer, Beaulieu, Sterling and Stag’s Leap Winery. Within that lineup, Frank Family “fills (a) key portfolio gap in luxury Chardonnay,” according to Treasury.
Winemaker Todd Graff has been with the winery for over 20 years. An alumnus of U.C. Davis’ class of 1984, Graff launched his winemaking career as a cellar intern for Joseph Phelps Vineyards, where he learned the fundamentals and worked alongside fellow interns from some of the world’s top winegrowing regions. The friendships he made there took him around the globe chasing an endless harvest - he has worked in Australia's Hunter Valley, Mosel Germany and Saint-Emilion ,Bordeaux before returning to Napa Valley. As he said in an article last year, “If you’re going to be in Napa, Cabernet is the game to play.”
Our allocation of these three wines is limited, so please order promptly.
Our very best to you and yours for the New Year!
—James Tran

2021 Frank Family Winery Carneros Chardonnay
91 Points - James Suckling:
"A clean and poised chardonnay with nougat, sliced apple and pear and a hint of vanilla. Medium body. Bright acidity. Fun to drink now." (Sep 2022)
Winery Tasting Notes:
14.5% ABV. This wine is perfumed in brioche and baked apple, with seasonings of nutmeg and vanilla. It opens in a rich, full-bodied concentration of citrus and white peach and evolves on the palate to show structure and depth. Bright acidity lifts hints of toasted oak, maintaining a fresh and plush finish.

2019 Frank Family Winery Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
93 Points - James Suckling:
"A fresh and clean Napa cabernet with blackcurrants and hints of fresh herbs, such as parsley and thyme. Medium-bodied, delicious and bright. Varietal. Real. Drink or hold." (Sep 2022)
92 Points - Vinous:
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a bold, juicy wine to drink now and over the next decade or so. Black cherry, mocha, new leather, licorice and bittersweet chocolate are all kicked up in this exuberant, flamboyant Cabernet. The 2019 is a superb edition for the Napa Valley bottling. (Drink between 2024-2034)" - Antonio Galloni (Jan 2022)
91 Points - Robert Parker's WA:
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes racing out of the glass with bold notes of warm cassis, cedar and mulberries, plus wafts of dried mint, tobacco and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, soft and juicy in the mouth, it is packed with bright fruit, finishing long and lifted." - LPB (Oct 2021)
90 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Lots of spicy, sappy herbs, sandalwood, and tobacco notes emerge from the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley from Frank Family Vineyard. A classic, old-school-like expression of the variety, it has plenty of fruit, silky tannins, and lots of character. It’s well worth following over the coming 10-12 years. (Drink between 2022-2034)" (Jan 2022)

2019 Frank Family Winery Zinfandel
90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2018):
"The 2018 Zinfandel is composed of 86% Zinfandel, 11% Petite Sirah, 2% Pinot Noir and 1% Sangiovese. Deep garnet-purple colored, it delivers compelling notes of stewed red and black plums, fruitcake and raspberry pie with touches of Chinese five spice and potpourri. Full-bodied, the palate has loads of decadently spicy red and black fruit layers, framed by chewy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing on a lingering peppery note." - LPB (Nov 2020)
Tasting Notes:
This beautifully balanced and deeply concentrated Zinfandel boasts elegant, complex layers of crushed clove, fresh blackberry, and creamy mocha on the nose. A velvety texture of fine- grained tannins provides structural weight to the ripe fruit flavors of plum compote as well as violet, thyme, and black pepper.
