Crisis Center for South Suburbia The Crisis Center for South Suburbia offers survivors of domestic violence emergency shelter, housing, counseling, and advocacy services. Prevention and community education services, as well as programs for abusers, are also offered. If you are a victim of domestic violence and need help, call our 24-hour hotline at 708-429-SAFE (7233). For more information, visit www.crisisctr.org or call 708-429-7255.

Holiday Stress Increases Need for Domestic Violence Victims Support Group. Many families feel stressed during the holiday season, but for those caught in an abusive relationship the tension is even more difficult to navigate. This is one of the reasons the Crisis Center for South Suburbia offers a weekly support group for victims of domestic violence. The group educates survivors about the forms of domestic violence, the cycle of violence, the impact on children, and more. One of the most important topics that the group covers is safety planning. The support group is a great place for survivors who are living with an abuser, or who have found the courage to leave, to practice new skills together. The Domestic Violence Support Group is free and open to all survivors of domestic violence. Meetings are held on Wednesdays from 7-8 pm in Tinley Park. To register for this free group, call the Crisis Center at 708-429-7233 (SAFE). Individual counseling and specialized counseling for children who have been impacted by domestic violence is also offered at no charge.

Frankfort Public Library District offers a variety of programs each month. Here are some of the upcoming offerings.

Illinois Libraries Present: Shauna Sever on Tue. Dec. 13 at 7p. Join Shauna Sever, cookbook author, TV and radio contributor, and daughter of the great Midwest, for this special Illinois Libraries Present holiday season event. In conversation with Chicago Tribune food critic Louisa Chu, Shauna will share her love of food, baking, and some tips to make your holiday gatherings delicious. You can register for this Zoom event here: https://bit.ly/ShaunaSeverPlease note: This event is made possible by Illinois Libraries Present, a statewide collaboration among public libraries offering high-quality events. Illinois Libraries Present is funded in part by a grant awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).

Trivia Night on Tue. Dec. 20 at 7pm. Come on out and test your niche knowledge at our Trivia Night! Single participants and teams of up to 4 are welcome. The categories planned for December are as follows: The North Pole, Playing in the Snow, Hottest Gifts of the Year, Reindeer Names, Coping with the Cold, Around the World, Crooners, Fast Food Slogans, Stormy Weather, Gotta Go Fast, Stuck Like Glue, Vintage Tools, and Medical Mistakes. You could be the next champion!

Community Wishing Tree through Dec. 23. The concept of wishing trees emerged around the world because trees are a universal symbol of hope, life, and resilience. They are found in many different cultures with varying rituals, but what they have in common is a place where people reconnect with what truly matters to them. Visit our Community Wishing Trees in the Library's West End this holiday season. Write your wish on one of the provided paper stars, then hang it on one of the trees.

Register here or call 815-534-6173.
