"Living in a state of gratitude is the gateway to grace." — Arianna Huffington

A Word from Our CEO:

Krystin Albert; RN, BSN

November is National Home Care and Hospice Month. We recognize the ability to bring Health Care into the homes of some of the most vulnerable patients and leave a lasting impact on the patients and families they serve in the community. It is a time for educating the community on the importance and availability of these services. Staff, including doctors, administration, clinicians, and volunteers all work together to ensure that patients, as well as the community, are receiving the best care possible in the environment they call home. Home Health Care services allow patients to return home sooner for rehab, exacerbation of chronic illness, acute care, and end of life care.

Home Care services provide relief for family caregivers. It allows patients to return to the safety and comfort of their own home where research has proven these patients recover quicker and with less complications. Home Care services help each patient achieve max independence so they may remain in their home. Each organization has a team of professionals who you get to know you on a more personal level than any other health Care environment. Clinicians work closely with your Physician and collaborate with community resources to ensure all available services are utilized.

In-home Hospice Care allows you to be cared for at end of life in your own home surrounded by those who love you. Hospice care at home provides a much higher quality of life with the support of a team of nurses, volunteers, spiritual care, Home Health Aides, Social workers, and doctors. Medical equipment as well as end of life medications are provided. Hospice families and caregivers are also provided with education on how to care for their loved one. Access to a nurse 24/7 helps to decrease the anxiety of patients and caregivers.

Each year Home Health and Hospice agencies face new challenges in providing care. Staffing shortages related to burnout from the pandemic and less clinicians are joining the Home Care field. Home Care is not for the faint of heart, it requires independence and excellent skills of all clinicians in order for a patient to be successful.

As we celebrate National Home Health and Hospice Month, extend your gratitude to all the providers out there who wore full PPE for the last few years, saw patients during major snow storms, and continue to give excellent care each and every day to all they come in contact with. It is a rewarding job for each of them and they hold the patient’s best interest at heart.

Lastly, know that you have the right to choose your Home Health and Hospice agency. I urge you to do your research and choose the agency that is right for you. Franklin VNA & Hospice remains a small independent agency who believes in quality and compassionate care for all patients. Choose local…choose Franklin VNA & Hospice.

Thank you to all the staff at Franklin VNA & Hospice for continuing the Mission of excellent and compassionate care to our communities and all the patients we serve.

Franklin VNA & Hospice is your choice for excellence in Homecare and Hospice. Choose local. Choose Excellence. Choose Franklin VNA & Hospice as YOUR agency.

Celebrating National Home Health and Hospice Month

National Home Care and Hospice Month in November recognizes the dedicated professionals who make a daily difference in the lives of the people they serve.

These caregivers come in many roles, from therapists and aids, administrators and nurses, to LNAs and social workers. Their compassion and attention to detail improve the lives of every resident under their care. Their patience and time provide improved quality of life and peace of mind for family members. The month celebrates these qualities and so much more.

To celebrate, thank someone you know who works in Home Health and Hospice Care today! We have a dynamite team here at FVNAH, and we are grateful for the hard work they do every single day.

Veteran's Day is November 11th

Veterans Day on November 11th honors military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. The federal holiday coincides with Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which marks World War I. These observances reflect the end of significant hostilities at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany took effect. Initially, the United States observed Armistice Day as well. However, it evolved into the current Veterans Day in 1954.

Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day or Armed Forces Day. Veterans Day celebrates all United States military veterans. However, Memorial Day is set aside for remembering the men and women who died while serving. Additionally, Armed Forces Day recognizes the men and women currently serving in the United States military.

VETERANS DAY HISTORY

U.S. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed Armistice Day on November 11, 1919. At the time, he said, "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations."

The United States Congress passed a concurrent resolution on June 4, 1926. The resolution requested that President Calvin Coolidge issue another proclamation to observe November 11th with appropriate ceremonies. A Congressional Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U.S. Code, Sec. 87a) approved May 13, 1938, made the 11th of November in each year a legal holiday: "a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistice Day.'"

In 1945, World War II veteran Raymond Weeks from Birmingham, Alabama, expressed an idea. Weeks proposed to expand Armistice Day to celebrate all veterans who served in the U.S. military. Weeks led a delegation to Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, who supported the idea of National Veterans Day. Then in 1947, Weeks led the first national celebration in Alabama. Annually, the country recognized its veterans until he died in 1985. President Reagan honored him at the White House in 1982. Weeks earned the Presidential Citizenship Medal as the driving force for the national holiday. Elizabeth Dole prepared the briefing for President Reagan, calling Weeks the "Father of Veterans Day."

U.S. Representative Ed Rees from Emporia, Kansas, presented a bill establishing the holiday through Congress. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, also from Kansas, signed the bill into law on May 26, 1954.

Congress amended this act on June 1, 1954, replacing "Armistice" with "Veterans," and it has been known as Veterans Day since.
