This story from Missouri General Agent Ryan Lister from early in his career demonstrates that Knights of Columbus agents are much more than just salesmen, they help to change lives.
I always tell my clients that if they ever need anything, I’m here for them. Early in my career, I had to fulfill that promise to a brother Knight who was considering cancelling his Knights of Columbus insurance. I sat down with him and his wife and, after going through their needs and options, they decided to keep their coverage.
Fast forward about a year and a half after that conversation, The same brother reached out to me and said, “Ryan, you always said if I needed you, you’d be here. Well, I need you now. I need you fast.” I went to his house and learned that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. It became clear that he didn’t have much time left.
I spent about four hours with him that night, updating all of his ownerships and beneficiaries, got wills completed, and made sure that his wife had a plan so that when his time came, she would know what to do. I promised her that I would always be there for her.
I walked to my car with tears in my eyes that night. As a 25-year-old man, that was a pretty deep thing for me to take in. This man's final wish for me was to make sure that his spouse was financially taken care of.
We agents talk about it all the time, that when a brother Knight passes away, we’ll be there for them. But to truly be there, to be the hands and feet, if you will, of Father McGivney serving the mission of protecting our brothers -- it a special privilege.
I get to fulfill the mission of Father Michael J. McGivney. That's why my job is so great.

Keep Christ in Christmas/La Posada
In an increasingly secular world, many Catholics are faced with the difficulty of sharing the faith. With the bustle of Christmas shopping and the frequent removal of religious imagery from Christmas displays, it seems that communities have forgotten the incredible gift of Christ and the beauty of his birth. Consider participating in the Keep Christ in Christmas Program, including La Posada – a program especially relevant to Hispanic communities - to bring the parish together. Click here to find out more. Another great program that could teach children in the parish of the true meaning of Christmas is the Keep Christ in Christmas Poster contest.
