Hello!

Thank you for registering for the Fraternity Update. As you were unable to attend, I wanted to share an update of items we covered during last night's update. I believe transparency is vital as we need the support of our sisters to continue to grow as an organization. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to me at ga@phisigmasigma.org.

As always, I appreciate your continued support! While the road ahead of us has many challenges, I know that together we will be able to navigate these opportunities creating an even strong foundation for the next generation of Phi Sigma Sigma sisters.

FRATERNITY UPDATE SUMMARY
COVID-19 SPRING UPDATE
  • All of our collegiate chapters were directly impacted by university closures in Spring 2020.
  • We launched the Detour program to move sisterhood online.
  • Developed a one-on-one mentoring program to support our graduating seniors. In our initial pilot we were able to match 248 mentor/mentee pairs.
  • Executed an extensive refund process, refunding $2 million in dues and room and board fees.
  • Launched the Sapphire Circle Emergency Assistance Grant to provide financial relief to sisters impacted by COVID-19. To date we have been able to provide over $36,000 in immediate financial support.

COVID-19 FALL 2020 OUTLOOK
  • Introduced additional status options and rolled out a modified dues structure to cater to changing needs of our collegiate members.
  • Working with chapters to adjust plans to meet university, local, state and CDC guidelines. Our chapters’ campuses range from virtual only to full in-person instruction at the moment.
  • Many of our campuses are planning for virtual or partially virtual recruitment. While this is a shift of typical operations, connection is more important than ever and we look forward to providing that to new members.
  • Executed our first virtual MRC training.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION
  • Black Lives Matter. Following the murder of George Floyd and numerous others, we’ve taken this opportunity to truly evaluate our role in our communities and map out the progress and change we want to make, starting within our own communities and chapters.
  • Identified collegiate and alumnae volunteers who will work in interdisciplinary “circles” based on expertise. Avoiding the creation of a task force allows us to share initiatives as soon as they are ready and not be held up by task force or committee process.
  • Launched online affinity groups including: Phi Sig: BIPOC, Phi Sig: LGBTQ+ and Phi Sig: First Generation Students & Graduates
  • Updated our membership recruitment policy to remove special considerations for legacies
  • Offered chapter dialogue facilitation to collegiate chapters.
  • This continues to be a priority on the chapter and Fraternity level. We have identified a number of priorities for the fall semester and for consideration at Convention 2021. We will continue to publish updates regarding our diversity, equity & inclusion work on our website.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
  • The uncertainty and impact of COVID-19 has caused a significant financial impact on Phi Sigma Sigma as a whole. We are a non-profit organization that is supported by annual dues and we anticipate a dramatic decline in revenue for this next fiscal year.
  • As an alumnae, you can help support the Fraternity and enable us to continue to provide programming and support to our chapters through the Perpetuity Project.
  • We hope you will join our campaign by either making a Loyal Sister contribution on CrowdChange or mailing a check to Phi Sigma Sigma Headquarters at the following address:

Phi Sigma Sigma
8178 Lark Brown Road
Suite 202
Elkridge, MD 21075

  • Another way to support Phi Sigma Sigma is by lending your time and talents. If you are interested in giving back through volunteering, please email volunteer@phisigmasigma.orgfor more information on our current volunteer roles and needs.
