Beware of Letters requesting money to receive a Property Profile or Deed

A new scam to our area targets those who recently purchased a home. Recent buyers receive a letter referencing "Recorded Deed Notice" and specific property and name information. The letter looks "official" and requests $86.00 to receive a copy of "Your Current Grant Deed and Property Assessment Profile." The return address is out of state. Click here for example of letter . Please note that the information referenced in the letter is Public Record and available for free or for a nominal fee through the Eagle County Clerk and Recorder office or during closing. While this scam has been around for a few years, Eagle County may be seeing this for the first time. Realtor.com covered this issue in 2014 .
