MCCU has received reports from members that have received a call from our local
(303-770-4468) and toll-free number (888-383-5926) claiming to be the ‘fraud department’ of the credit union and wanting to verify card transactions.
-
If you receive such a call, HANG UP IMMEDIATELY, call the credit union back directly and select option 1 for a Member Service Representative to assist you.
Reports state that the fraudster callers know some card information such as the first 6-digits or last 4-digits of the card, and one report indicated the fraudster knew the last-four digits of the SS#.
- A valid call from our card security department will not ask you for your SS# in any form (only if you call in to the number on the card will they ask you for this).
Once the member states that the transactions are not valid, the fraudster then states that they will block the compromised card and order a new one.
- A valid call from our card security department will block the card and instruct you to contact the CU directly to order a new card- they will never state they will reorder the card for you.
One report stated the fraudster needed the member to reset their online banking access and give them the new username.
-
A valid call from our card security department- and from MCCU- WILL NEVER ASK YOU FOR YOUR ONLINE BANKING USERNAME OR PASSWORD.
Fraudsters instructed a member to reset the card PIN and provide that to them over the phone.
-
Neither our card security department nor MCCU WILL NEVER ASK FOR YOUR PIN.
Remember:
- MCCU Members will receive a text and/or email notification of any suspicious fraudulent activity on their debit or credit cards- and be able to take immediate action to block the card from being used further.
o If the text or email is not responded to, an automated service (NOT a person) will make a call.
-
This service will provide details of the transaction in question and request the member to confirm with a simple ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. IT WILL NOT ASK FOR ANY ACCOUNT INFORMATION SUCH AS ACCOUNT NUMBER, CARD NUMBERS OR PIN’S.
-
If the transaction is fraudulent, the service will block the card in question and instruct the member to contact the CU directly for a replacement.
-
If you receive a call claiming to be from Metrum Community Credit Union, hang up and call the credit union back directly.
- Set Up Card Activity Alerts using the MCCU Mobile App/Manage Cards. Any attempted transaction using the card will send you a notification- allowing you to see the activity and block the card immediately if you see fraudulent activity.
o You can also temporarily lock your card and unlock it when you are completing transactions.
If you have additional concerns or questions on how to protect your account and your identity, visit the credit unions fraud protection web page or call us directly at 303-770-4468 and dial option #1.
