Winter Restaurant Week kicks off tomorrow

Nearly 30 downtown restaurants will participate in this year's event, which starts Friday (tomorrow) and runs through January 21. Here is some info for you on this great annual event:
Ample improvements coming to I-95 in Fredericksburg region

An agreement with Australia-based Transurban will result in the construction of the proposed 10-mile Interstate 95 express lanes extension in Stafford as well as an influx of money to pay for the northbound Rappahannock River crossing, a major project that has been stuck in limbo. That is on top of the work currently under way to improve the Exit 130 interchange, and add collector-distributor lanes between Exit 133 and Exit 130 and a new southbound bridge over the river (a contract was recently awarded for the latter work).

Virginia Living magazine is now accepting nominations for its annual "Best of Virginia" awards, which cover restaurants, shops, museums, hotels, schools, arts, events and more. Vote 22401!
Get a glimpse inside FORT
Here is a look at FORT, a great new youth-oriented "pure play" business on Herndon Street in Fredericksburg. We'll have a "Freehling Finds" video about FORT in the next couple of weeks.

Metro Diner opening February 13

Metro Diner, located in the Greenbrier Shopping Center at 2068 Plank Road (the former Friendly's building), plans to open February 13. The sign is now up (look to your right). Next week's "Freehling Finds" video will feature Metro Diner and a handful of other projects now under way.

Skin + Touch Therapy Spa adds offering

Skin+Touch Therapy Spa, located at 714 Caroline Street in downtown Fredericksburg, has opened a nail studio offering natural eco-friendly nail services in a newly-renovated addition to the business' historic building.

Childress Agency acquires Cyberbility

The Childress Agency, a full-service marketing firm that recently relocated to 513 Prince Edward Street, has acquired IT firm Cyberbility. A Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting is planned at The Childress Agency on January 31.

Changes coming to Devil Dog Double

Starting last year, the Marine Corps Historic Half dared participants to scale the challenging Hospital Hill twice in one morning, by participating in the Semper 5ive and then turning around to complete the 13.1-mile Half. This year (the race is May 20), the Devil Dog Double is being expanded.
