Are SAT Scores really optional?
Here is what CUNY Says online:
SAT OR ACT SCORES

CUNY is Test-Optional

What is the meaning of Test-Optional at Macaulay?

Test-optional means that applicants have the opportunity to submit their standardized (SAT/ACT) exam scores to Macaulay for admissions.

Applicants can also opt-out of submitting their (SAT/ACT) exam scores to Macaulay for admissions.

Note: Applicants that feel that their SAT/ ACT scores could make a big difference in their application should submit their SAT/ ACT scores.

Applicants that believe they are academically strong and their SAT/ACT results would NOT make a difference in their application can decide not to submit their SAT/ ACT scores.

No matter which option applicants select, all applications will be evaluated equally.

If you would like to submit scores, please do so no later than 6 pm on Monday, November 28, 2022.

ESSAY 2: ABOUT YOUR COLLEGE PLANS. PLEASE DISCUSS ALL POINTS BELOW.

Why do you want to go to an honors college? There are many benefits of being a Macaulay student, such as the Macaulay community, special courses, Honors advisement, cultural passport, opportunities funds, and other financial benefits.

Please describe how these features will shape you and your college experience, including what you expect to bring to the college community and what you expect to get out of your college experience.
Macaulay offers all of its students a merit scholarship package that includes tuition, a Cultural Passport, and access to the Opportunities Fund.

Students who meet CUNY New York State residency requirements for in-state tuition have the opportunity to graduate free from tuition debt thanks to the tuition scholarship. It covers four years of undergraduate study, excluding fees and expenses.
Macaulay offers 100% Full Tuition Scholarships
Macaulay students who meet CUNY’s New York State residency requirements for in-state tuition are eligible to receive the Macaulay Tuition 100% Scholarship but must complete their financial aid applications annually to maintain consideration for it.
Macaulay College an Pay for your summer and winter internships and summer classes.
Tuition for Summer and Winter Sessions

Macaulay encourages students to pursue internships, research, study abroad opportunities, or academic/service program experiences during the summer and winter sessions.

Summer coursework may be appropriate:

  • If you accumulate fewer than 30 credits at the end of your first year (including AP credits)

  • If your major requires more than 120 credits, you may need to take summer courses to graduate within four years.

  • If you want to devote more time to complex or unconventional areas studies.

Conditions for summer tuition funding:

  • With approval from your Macaulay Advisor, Macaulay Honors College will fund up to 8 credits each summer, starting after completion of the first year.

  • Students will be responsible for paying the tuition for any credits they register for that exceed the 8-credit limit. (For example, a student registered for 10 summer credits would be responsible for paying for 2 credits.)

  • Summer courses taken after the 8th semester or after graduation are not eligible for coverage by the Macaulay Tuition Scholarship.
  • Students receiving financial aid for the summer session will have it applied to their bill.

Conditions for winter session tuition funding:

  • With approval from your Macaulay Advisor, Macaulay Honors College will fund one class for up to 4 credits.

  • Students should also obtain Macaulay Advisor approval for winter study abroad plans. For students studying abroad, the tuition scholarship will cover one class of up to 4 credits.

  • Those taking more than one class or more than 4 credits abroad must submit the Study Abroad Tuition Policy Exception Form to obtain prior approval from the Macaulay Office of Scholarships and Grants to cover the additional tuition.

  • Financial aid received for the spring semester applies to the winter tuition bill.
CUNY schools require students to complete the FAFSA [financial aid] every single year.
CUNY and New York State require every student to complete their FAFSA and TAP applications annually to maintain the Macaulay merit scholarship package, including the tuition scholarship.

Please note that the Macaulay Honors College does not have a designated college code for the FAFSA and TAP applications. Students submitting these financial aid applications should use the college code corresponding to the Macaulay partner CUNY College to which they have applied.

Both applications are open as of October 1, and it’s imperative to complete both by October 15 each year for the upcoming academic year.

Once FAFSA and TAP applications have been processed, visit CUNYfirst → Student Center → To-Do List to see if any follow-up documents are needed to finalize your FAFSA application. For TAP, please refer to the HESC portal for updates.

For TAP eligibility, students enrolled in a 4-year program must also declare a major within 30 days of the end of the drop/add period in their junior year.

Students who lose TAP eligibility for failure to meet this requirement will not be eligible to receive the Macaulay Tuition Scholarship for the semester in which TAP eligibility was lost.

Students who don’t reapply by October 15 face severe financial consequences: CUNY will rescind the scholarship and charge the student retroactively for tuition for the entire year.
Macaulay also requires a Character Reference Letter. Acceptance to Macaulay is an incredible honor.
Macaulay will fund "Experiential Learning" $$$
Experiential learning is one of the pillars of a Macaulay education.

In addition to receiving a tuition scholarship that covers institutional CUNY classroom costs, Macaulay students receive $1,500 to support study away or abroad, internship service or research work.

This funding comes to us from the generous contributions of private philanthropists and organizations committed to enhancing the Macaulay experience for all of our students.

Learn more about the Opportunities Fund here.

Macaulay requires NYS residency. The full scholarship covers eight semesters of tuition.
Macaulay students who must meet CUNY’s New York State residency requirements for in-state tuition receive the tuition scholarship. All students must complete the FAFSA and TAP application and the financial aid verification process (if selected) to be considered for the Macaulay Tuition Scholarship. The scholarship funds eight semesters of full-time undergraduate tuition within your four years of study. Tuition coverage is also available for a limited number of summer and winter classes, excluding fees.

For over a decade, the Horace W. Goldsmith Scholars Program has identified and guided students interested in pursuing graduate school. Students are given the resources to prepare competitive applications for their top-choice programs through one-on-one mentorship and personalized writing assistance.

Starting in the fall semester, students can apply to become a Goldsmith Scholar directly on the Opportunities Fund application. Students will include in their statement how their experiential learning activity directly relates to their graduate school plans. And also describe how graduate school fits into personal and professional trajectories. Applications will then be read by a committee of Macaulay staff and faculty.

If selected, students will receive an enhanced grant and an invitation to a special reception with the donor’s family. Additionally, students will have the opportunity of meeting with Cameron Stewart to tailor their personal statements toward their graduate programs.
