California’s Assembly Bill 5 is officially law.

It’s the new law that requires independent and contract workers to be considered employees of a company, rather than independent workers. Nearly a million more independent workers in California are feeling the effects of AB 5, including interpreters who work at county courthouses .

Marybel Carino is a Chula Vista-based, federally and state-certified court interpreter. Marybel has provided interpretation services for both Lorena Gonzalez and Mayor Faulconer. She was in studio to talk more about how the bill is affecting her business.

A federal appeals court in New York on Wednesday refused to allow the Trump administration to implement a sweeping rule that would make it easier for the government to reject applications for green cards and visas from immigrants who it determines are or could become burdens on U.S. taxpayers.

The decision by a three-judge panel on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan to maintain the sole nationwide injunction blocking the so-called "public charge" rule is a victory for critics of the proposed regulation, which they say would disproportionately affect low-income immigrants and people of color seeking to move to the U.S.

. A new Senate Bill, SB323, would " permit students who are pursuing an advanced studies diploma to substitute two standard units of credit in computer science for two standard units of credit in a foreign language ".
