Dear friends,
 Last week I had the honor of joining Kaiser Permanente, Sowing Employment and Economic Development (SEED), Christian Life Center and many other Greater Riverdale Cares partners to cut the ribbon on two refrigerated trailers to assist with our ongoing food distribution efforts. Kaiser hired local artists, including a student at Bladensburg High School, to paint the the trucks which incorporated the words "Faith" and "Hope" in several of the many languages spoken by Riverdale-area residents. Pop-Up Covid Testing Site in College Park
 Tomorrow, October 23, 9am -11am, the County Health Department is setting up a pop-up mobile COVID-19 Testing site behind the Hotel in College Park, 7878 Diamondback Drive.
Walk ups and cars are welcome.
No appointments, no insurance needed.

M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation is now conducting feasibility studies for new multigenerational centers in Service Areas 2, 3 and 4, all of which overlap with communities in Council District 3.
Multigenerational facilities will include amenities such as a fitness center, indoor pool, indoor track, and more, with a goal of meeting the recreation needs of everyone in a family. Learn more about M-NCPPC Multigenerational Facilities here.
It's extremely important for our community to attend and make our voices heard at these meeting!
Each meeting will start at 6:30 pm on the date indicated. If you live near the border of service area, you may want to attend more than one meeting!
Affordable Housing Panel - October 28, 12:00 pm
I'm incredibly honored to join Deputy Chief Administrator for Economic Development Angie Rodgers, Council Member Derick Leon Davis, Vikki Davis with Urban Atlantic, Jair Lynch with Jair Lynch Realty and others on Tuesday, October 28 at Noon at for an important conversation led by Housing Association of Nonprofit Developers, HAND Activation: A Dialogue with Prince George's County.
This virtual program will be an opportunity for Prince George's County leadership to share their vision for affordable housing and economic development, and for industry practitioners to provide insights on their plans to support this vision.  On Tuesday, I was proud to vote in favor of CR-100-2020, which approves a multi-year Memorandum of Understanding to clearly allocate the County's and Prince George's County Public Schools' (PGCPS) roles, rights and responsibilities with respect to funding and oversight for the PGCPS Public-Private Partnership for the design, construction, financing and maintenance of County Public Schools (Project). This MOU lays out specific reporting requirements and the establishment of a Steering Committee which is subject to operate under the Open Meetings Act requirements. The Board of Education approved the plan on Wednesday evening.

The ACF program is one of many steps in a multi-year, county-wide project to address aging school infrastructure. The PGCPS Department of Capital Programs will continue to oversee the replacement and development of new schools on a parallel construction path that uses traditional funding sources. The new William Wirt Middle School and new Glenridge Area Middle School are being built through the traditional funding model. Both schools are in permitting and will break ground this winter. I believe we must use all available paths to deliver new and updated school infrastructure for our students and teachers.

On Wednesday my office distributed nearly 500 boxes of meals and 500 boxes of groceries. Special thanks to Prince George's County businesses Jordan's Bistro and Sardi's for partnering with the Department of Family Services to make this possible.
Thanks to the incredible dedication of 18 volunteers, we were able to deliver 240 boxes of meals and 240 boxes of groceries to those unable to pick up. Thank you to our incredible volunteers from Kaiser Permanente, Starbucks Capital Plaza, Employ Prince George's and residents across all of District 3!

I'm pleased to announce my office will partner with the Department of Family Services to distribute boxes of meals for District 3 seniors age 60+ and individuals with disabilities of any age again on Wednesday, November 18.
If you received a box of meals in the past, you do not have to fill out the long registration form again. However, you must let me know you want Nov. 18 meals by replying to this email to let me know your name, address, and if you will pick up or would like delivery.
If you have not received these meals from my office before, you may reserve your box for November 18 between Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, November 12 here: https://tinyurl.com/D3Meals
I do not yet know if we will be able to offer grocery boxes again on November 18, but the meals will include a Thanksgiving meal (with a slice of pumpkin pie!).
If you are able to deliver to 8-10 homes the morning of November 18, please sign up here. It's a rewarding no contact volunteer opportunity.
September 10, 2020 Flooding Event
The Office of Emergency Management has closed their assessment tool because they have determined we will not be able to meet the threshold to request FEMA or other Federal disaster relief funding.
The Prince George's County Office of Emergency Management, in coordination with MEMA, worked to identify the Maryland Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (MD VOAD) as a potential resource for residents still in need of clean-up, debris removal, and certain home repairs.  If you are in need of any of these volunteer services, please call the Crisis Cleanup Hotline at (301) 360-4719 before October 30, 2020. If services requested are available, residents will be notified for further coordination.

Storm Water Management Updates
Thank you to everyone who joined the Department of the Environment and me yesterday evening for an update on the Calvert Hills (College Park) Drainage Project.
This project, in the Guilford Run water basin, would bring this neighborhood drainage system in College Park to the 10yr standard. It includes storm drain upgrades, upgrading capacity of open channels, and installing an underground storage vault at Calvert Park.
