Free Concerts in the Park Series at Burke Lake Park Starts this Wednesday – Grab your friends, a picnic blanket, and come join us this Wednesday, July 14th at 7 p.m. at Burke Lake Park for the kickoff of the annual free concert series. This summer’s series kicks off with longtime favorite, Randy Thompson Band. Arrive early to get your spot on the lawn and grab a drink from 2 Silos! Bird Mortality Event Update – Many of you have been following the recent bird mortality event that is being investigated by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. The labs have still not identified the definitive cause(s) and additional diagnostic testing is being conducted. The state wildlife agencies in the affected states are still recommending that people cease feeding birds. For now, they continue to request that residents not put out birdfeeders where birds would congregate until the cause of the event is identified. Free Concerts in the Park Series at Burke Lake Starts this Wednesday
Grab your friends, a picnic blanket, and come join me this Wednesday, July 14th at 7 p.m. at Burke Lake Park for the kickoff of the annual free concert series. This summer’s series kicks off with longtime favorite, Randy Thompson Band. Arrive early to get your spot on the lawn and grab a drink from 2 Silos!

The atmosphere is informal, so feel free to bring a picnic dinner, blankets and lawn chairs, and relax with friends and family. We will have brief opening acts from some of our local talented student musicians as well.
I am again partnering with the Fairfax County Park Authority, the Park Authority Foundation, our sponsors and 2 Silos Brewery to host this seven-show series with free music and delicious food and drink options.

Personal Safety Awareness For College Students (July 17)
The West Springfield Police Station will be hosting two events to teach college students self defense and personal safety situational awareness.
This event consists of two presentations:
Personal Safety and Situational Awareness 9:00 am - 10:00 am
and
Active Violence Awareness, Avoid, Deny, Defend. 10:30 am - 12:00 pm.

Neighborhood Watch Training (July 20)
FCPD officers from West Springfield Station will be conducting a zoom training for Neighborhood Watch programs to improve safety in our communities.
If you are interested in participating in Neighborhood Watch, this training is required.

County Strategic Plan Discussion (July 21)
The Countywide Strategic Plan will purportedly be used to set fiscal priorities and funding of initiatives. It is important that community members weigh in on their priorities and the impact of tax increases on them. Often we just hear from activists that want their programs funded. On July 21 there will be a virtual community meeting to share your thoughts on the Fairfax Countywide Strategic Plan and share your priorities and the impact of rising taxes on you.

Caregiver Panel (July 30)
Research has shown that at some point in their caregiving journey, a family caregiver will face the decision of whether to place a loved one in a long-term care facility. This panel conversation will provide information about the different options and resources to inform yourself before making the decision, and how to advocate for your loved one while they are in a long-term care facility.
The panel includes Kristen Lucia, Northern Virginia Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, Denise Pitts, Attorney, Legal Services of Northern Virginia, Inc., Tavna Limage, Fairfax Assistant Program Manager, Adult Protective Services. The Tysons Community Vaccination Center now offers walk-in appointments!
First-come, first-served appointments are available Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Complete a registration form on site or make an appointment in our scheduling system for a shorter wait.
The location is in the former Lord & Taylor store, 7950 Tysons Corner Center, in Tysons.

Help Paying Your Water Bill
Do you need help paying your Fairfax Water bill? Eligible residents can apply for assistance through the COVID-19 Municipal Utility Relief Program. Residents are encouraged to apply soon as federal CARES Act funds will be available until all funds have been exhausted.
To provide financial relief for customers in need, Fairfax Water is working with Fairfax County, the City of Falls Church, and the City of Fairfax to administer funds received from the Commonwealth of Virginia’s COVID-19 Municipal Utility Relief Program.
To qualify, customers must meet certain eligibility requirements, attest that they are experiencing financial hardship due to the coronavirus public health emergency, and submit an application to Fairfax Water.

Four-Legged-Friend of the Month |
Experienced dog owners wanted! Odie is Labrador Retriever mix looking for his new forever home. This nine-month-old dog will need extra attention and support in a home where he is the only dog and a home without young children. However, Odie is a playful little pup. He loves to play and will enjoy a high-energy owner.
If you are interested in him, send in a completed adoption questionnaire and we will go from there to share all the info the Animal Shelter has, answer any questions, and schedule a visit! If you have a dog at home already, the Anima Shelter will schedule a dog-to-dog intro as well to see if they get along. All adoption info, steps, and forms can be found online at this link.
