The Voice of Florida's Nurse Practitioners

September 2023

What are the Benefits of Joining FNPN, Your State NP Organization?

Nurse practitioners are vital in today's healthcare system, providing high-quality and accessible patient care across various healthcare settings. To support and empower NPs in their professional journey, many states, including Florida, have established nurse practitioner organizations. From professional development opportunities to advocacy for healthcare policies that directly impact your practice, there are many advantages to joining your state's nurse practitioner organization, Florida Nurse Practitioners, Your Statewide NP Network (FNPN).

Networking Opportunities

Membership in FNPN opens doors to invaluable networking opportunities. You'll have the chance to connect with fellow NPs, nurse leaders, and healthcare professionals in your area. These connections can lead to mentorship opportunities, collaboration on research or projects, and sharing best practices. Building a robust professional network can enhance your career and provide you with a supportive community of like-minded individuals.

Continuing Education

Staying up to date with the latest advancements in healthcare is crucial for NPs. FNPN offers exclusive access to and information on continuing education programs, workshops, and conferences. These events help NPs expand their knowledge and skills, ensuring they provide their patients with the highest quality of care. In addition to our premier annual conference, FNPN has a continuing education platform to obtain CEs, and FNPN members receive free or discounted educational opportunities. Finally, we partner with groups like Integrity CE to bring you even more free or low-cost CE.

Advocacy and Policy Influence

FNPN advocates for policies that benefit NPs and their patients. By joining FNPN, your statewide NP network, you become part of a collective voice that can influence legislative decisions and healthcare policies at the state level. FNPN has contracted a strong lobbying firm, and we have garnered many legislative successes over the last decade through our lobbyist, Allison Carvajal. Your membership contributes not only to our collective strength, making your voice an integral part of these efforts, but your membership also supports our ability to fund this advocacy. FNPN works tirelessly to ensure that NPs have a seat at the table when important healthcare decisions are made, ultimately improving the scope of practice and patient access to care.

Access to Resources

Nurse practitioners often face unique challenges, from regulatory issues to billing and reimbursement concerns. FNPN can provide valuable resources and guidance to navigate these challenges effectively.

Professional Recognition

Membership in FNPN can enhance your professional recognition. FNPN offers awards and honors to outstanding NPs in the community. Being part of such an organization can also improve your credibility when seeking employment or negotiating contracts, demonstrating your commitment to excellence and ongoing professional development.

Community Engagement

Nurse practitioners often have a strong desire to give back to their communities. FNPN frequently engages in community service and volunteer activities. By participating in these initiatives, you can positively impact the health and well-being of your community while also strengthening your sense of purpose as a healthcare provider.

Joining Florida Nurse Practitioners (FNPN) is an investment in your career and the future of healthcare. The vast benefits range from networking and professional development opportunities to advocacy for policies that enhance your practice. By becoming an active member, you advance your career and contribute to the betterment of the nursing profession and the healthcare system as a whole. So, if you have a colleague who is not a member of FNPN, encourage them to join. If you aren't active in FNPN, join one of our committees and reap the rewards of this enriching experience.

FNPN Region 2 (and Region 5) Update

Florida Nurse Practitioner Network is all about making connections! This past weekend, another wonderful connection was made, thanks to a suggestion by Dr. Arlene Wright of Region 5. The Wild on Wounds annual conference was held in Hollywood, Florida, bringing together wound care experts from a variety of professions. It was at this conference that I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Beatriz Coccaro-Word, DNP, APRN, ANP-BC, CWS.  She is an NP business owner with over twenty years of experience in wound healing.  She delivers compassionate, personalized, effective care that focuses on improving patient outcomes. At ON Call Wound Care, services include in-person and telehealth wound evaluation and treatment planning with educational services offering wound healing courses as well as education of new and proposed regulations to the staff at long-term care facilities and nursing schools in the area.

Networking is literally in FNPN's name! Dr. Coccaro-Word and I share a passion for wound care and for the NP profession.  It was my pleasure to make this FNPN connection across regions.
