On this day, April 5th, in 1614, famed Native American Pocahontas married John Rolfe. The REALLY interesting part is that John Rolfe was a passenger on the Sea Venture when it was wrecked on our reefs. John Rolfe spent the next 10-months in Bermuda while new ships were built to take the settlers on to Jamestown. Rolfe's wife gave birth to a baby daughter, named Bermuda, but she, along with her mother, would both die in Bermuda. In 1610 Rolfe continued on to Jamestown where he fell in love with Pocahontas, was permitted to marry her, leading to a period of peace with the native American Indians.
