Celebrate 20th Anniversary of The Trust This Saturday at HistoryMiami *

Free Family Fun Day and 20th Anniversary Exhibit at HistoryMiami Museum

In honor of our 20th Anniversary, Miami-Dade Mayor Danielle Levine Cava and the Board of County Commissioners proclaimed Sept. 10 as “The Children’s Trust Day” and what better way to celebrate than to join The Children’s Trust with your families for The Trust’s 20th Anniversary Celebration Family Fun Day at HistoryMiami, 101 West Flagler St., Miami, FL 33130, on Sept 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

The Children’s Trust 20th Anniversary Exhibition will be in the Community Gallery of HistoryMiami until Dec. 11 and will feature a timeline of The Trust’s historical accomplishments, stories of those who helped make it what it is today and some of the children whose lives it impacted. HistoryMiami's Family Fun Day is a FREE event with children’s activities, exhibition tours and much more! 

First TRIM Public Hearing Coming Sept. 12

The Children’s Trust will be holding its first TRIM hearing to tentatively adopt its millage rate and budget for 2022-2023; a public hearing to tentatively adopt the taxes and budget will be held on Monday, September 12, 5:01 p.m. The final TRIM hearing will be held on Monday, September 19, at 5:01 p.m.

Virtual Semi-Annual Provider Meeting Coming in Late September 

The Children's Trust will host a session for all Trust-funded providers on Friday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. The Provider Meeting will take place virtually. Please ensure that all staff members who are essential to our partnership attend; this includes your executive director/CEO along with the individuals who manage your program. Registration details coming soon.

New SPARK Training Scheduled for This Saturday,  Sept. 10 *

The Children's Trust is sponsoring a SPARK (Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids) training event at least once every month. The training is for contracted Youth Development K-5 providers using SPARK curriculum for fitness. Watch the Trust Academy LMS Event calendar for future trainings.

Help Spread the Word: The Children's Trust Community Parent Survey 

The Children’s Trust is conducting an anonymous online community survey to better understand parents' needs and interests. The survey is for parents of children prenatal through 18 years old, living in Miami-Dade County and is available in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole. It should take 15 minutes or less to complete. Parents who complete the survey will be able to enter to win a $50 Target gift card. The survey link is below. New Online UM Team COACH Training Course 

Helping Caregivers Overcome Anxiety in Parenting Programs

Are the caregivers that you work with really anxious or stressed? Are you looking for a plan to help you deal with caregiver anxiety? Then this is the course for you! This course provides step-by-step instructions and resources for parenting program providers to work with anxious parents. This course will teach providers how to ask about caregiver anxiety and how to help caregivers who are anxious. 

This online training course is available on Trust Academy and is appropriate for family service direct program staff and administrators. If you have any questions, please contact teamcoach@miami.edu.

Communities of Practice: Join a community where Parenting Providers support one another, share best practices and deepen their knowledge. CoPs are held monthly (the first week of the month) and are currently being offered virtually. CoPs will start back up again the first week of September.

***NEW COURSE*** The Advocacy Network on Disabilities is excited to announce the roll-out of Inclusion Reimagined (and along with it, the retirement of Discovering Inclusion). This updated training reflects new and changing ways of thinking about disabilities, people with disabilities, and inclusion. Many of the ideas that until recently, were considered best practice and acceptable, no longer are. Inclusion Reimagined becomes the new core course in the Advocacy Network’s portfolio and is recommended for all levels of staff in any initiative. You can access it through Trust Central.

Understanding The Children’s Trust Guidelines for Including Children with Disabilities - Did you know that to address the needs of children and youth with disabilities, there are options for modifying outcome measures? Discover what is meant by accommodation, modification, alternate assessment, and alternate outcomes. Learn when they are appropriate for program participants, and how to request permission to use them.

Successful Inclusion of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Part 1

You hear a lot about it, but do you really know what Autism Spectrum Disorder is, and the different ways it appears in different children and youth? Learn the facts, and how to recognize and accommodate those with sensory sensitivities, foster social competence, address bullying, and ensure a safe environment.

LIGHT MIAMI 

LIGHT (Leaders in Grassroots Health Transformation) will be a free 9-week leadership training course around health justice advocacy, the United States health care system and its alternatives, as well as public speaking and self-advocacy skills. 

This course will be held in-person at Dorsey Memorial Library 100 NW 17 St Miami, FL 33136, with a virtual option on Zoom starting on September 14. The class is free of charge; dinner and translation are all provided!

FREE Positive Parenting Program from FIU MINT 

The FIU - Center for Children and Families Mental Health Interventions and Technology (MINT) Anxiety Program is offering a FREE program for youth (ages 3-8) and families living in Florida. Services will be 6 sessions long, delivered via telehealth, and will focus on providing caregivers with tools to form a positive bond with their children, manage their own emotions during difficult situations, and help their children cope with uncomfortable feelings (e.g., anger, sadness, anxiety). The Institute for Child and Family Health (ICFH) provides mental health services including individual/family therapy and psychiatry for children and adolescents in Miami-Dade County. The institute accepts most Medicaid HMO’s and has funding for children of low-income families who do not have insurance. Program Assistant 

The Program Assistant (PA) is a part-time position that supports the Citizen Review Panel (CRP) Program by ensuring court file documents are obtained, scanned and properly stored in FFCR’s electronic filing system. The PA retrieves & returns court files for each CRP hearing, and prepares & delivers the CRP’s Final Reports to the Clerk of Courts.
