Something in the world feels fractured.

You can feel it in airports, in grocery stores, even in the way strangers drive.

It’s not just politics or the economy.

It’s something deeper:

The forgetting of how to see each other.

Everyone moves faster now.

They react quicker.

They reduce each other to headlines and avatars, categories and caricatures.

Meanwhile, the human capacity for tenderness withers.

This didn’t happen overnight.

It wasn’t caused by AI, or smartphones, or the internet.

Those things simply made the cracks impossible to ignore.

Radical compassion is no longer a luxury.

It is survival.

Radical compassion means choosing to see the child behind the cynic.

The wound beneath the rage.

The fear behind the cruelty.

It’s not easy.

In fact, it may be the hardest work left.

But it’s the only way to reweave the thread of humanity strong enough to survive the storms ahead.

If you can begin here—

in your own small, stubborn acts of kindness—

you can open a door.

Not just for yourself.

For everyone still searching for a way forward.

If you forget?

You won’t need machines to defeat you.

The forgetting will do it first.

But if you remember?

If you insist on remembering?

If you choose to meet the world not with walls but with wide, radical compassion—

Then you help keep alive the future that could be.

Not cold.

Not conquered.

But wilder.

Kinder.

More human than anything we have dared imagine yet.

It starts with you.

Right here.

Right now.

Radical Compassion in the Age of AI

This was one of the most fascinating articles, I read this week. We are going through a time of great change, I love those writers that make me pause, step back and reflect on my own assumptions about life and where I should be headed.

I Moved Abroad For A Better Life. Here’s What I Found Disturbing During My First Trip Back To America.

When I came back to the U.S., the differences weren’t just in the big things. They showed up in small, daily moments that highlighted how much I’d changed. The way my friend apologized for only having an hour for coffee because she had to get back to work. The constant checking of phones at dinner. The proud declarations of being “crazy busy” that I once viewed as normal but now heard as cries for help.

Living abroad hadn’t just changed my zip code — it had fundamentally altered how I viewed success, relationships and the American Dream itself. In the Netherlands, I’d learned that a society could prioritize collective well-being over individual achievement. That “enough” could be a destination, not just a pit stop on the way to “more.”

Sometimes loving your country means seeing it clearly, even when that vision breaks your heart.

Kim

Summer plans are to head out to Michigan the last week of May, stopping in Taos New Mexico for a week to explore and hike. We will be in Michigan for most of June and then head over to the Pacific Northwest and Canada for July and August.

We are in the stage of unfilling the RV (taking out all the stuff we didn't use last year) and putting in new stuff that we might not use this year. Then, we will probably need the stuff we removed but didn't use last year. Such is life.

Have a good one.

My book Travels Into Discomfort is available on Amazon.

It is a travel adventure in its prose and a journey to the heart in its poetry.

The midnight library by Matt Haig, 2020 (May 2025)

Monday the 12th of May, 5:30p PST/8:30p EST, we will discuss, The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, 2020.

This engaging read prompts introspection about life's choices and regrets. Ride along with Nora as she self-reflects on her life.

Between life and death there is a library, and within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices. Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets.
