Free Fix-it Event this Saturday
City of Federal Way Recycling is partnering with South King Tool Library to offer another free Repair Cafe. Bring your broken, cracked, non-functioning - appliances, collectibles, family heirlooms, or every day items! You can also bring clothing and linens for repair. Our talented fixers will do their best to make your stuff usable or tell you what parts you need to do the repair yourself.

Just a few things to remember:
- Please bring items you can carry, sorry nothing too big please.
- You must be present during the repair of your items, and we will serve attendees on a first come first serve basis.
- Bring manuals, adapters, chargers, or other components to help us fix or test your item.
- We will do our best to fix it, but no guarantees.
- Please do NOT bring items that are leaking, dangerous, contain gasoline or have a strong odor.
- Sorry, but no microwaves or electronics that are locked out or have cracked screens.

Free Monthly Shredding Events
The City's Solid Waste and Recycling Division is coordinating free monthly shredding events in conjunction with Waste Management, and local financial institutions to help residents dispose of confidential documents in a secure and environmentally-friendly way (as shredded paper should not be placed in the curbside recycling or yard waste).

Shredding events are limited to two file boxes or three paper bags of documents per person. Confidential documents only; please recycle catalogs, magazines and junk mail in your curbside recycling cart. Shredding events are for paper only. Staples and paperclips are ok, but no binders, plastic bags, CDs, DVDs or credit cards. Shredding events are open to all households, but not commercial businesses. Documents are securely shredded on-site.

You can also visit BECU's shredding and e-cycling event this weekend!

1,652 cars brought 247,408 pounds of material to the September 21 Recycling Event. The City holds free events each spring and fall for residents to drop off a variety of items that are not typically collected at the curb (or banned from disposal) such as appliances, mattresses, tires, Styrofoam, electronics and more.

Food Drive Brings in Record 6.6 Tons of Donations
Federal Way says YES to the mayor, and NO to hunger. A sack of food set out on a Federal Way curb may not seem like much, but when you add all the bags picked up by Waste Management across the city, plus donations collected at local stores and events, you’ve got 6.6 tons of food! That’s how much the 12th annual Mayor’s Month of Concern Food Drive brought in, and it's a record-breaker.
Post-Halloween Litter Patrol
Halloween is only a few short weeks away, and with all that candy comes a lot of candy wrappers. The day after Halloween is a great day to head out into the neighborhood with your family and pick up candy wrappers and other litter before heavy rains carry them into the storm drains that eventually lead to Puget Sound. It's also a great excuse to wear those costumes one last time!

Need supplies? City's Solid Waste & Recycling Division offers checkout of litter grabbers, safety vests, gloves and bags for volunteer litter groups. Contact [email protected] if interested.
