PMC Events
Student Media Live!
November 30 | 6-9pm | Anna Head Alumnae Hall
The event is a collection of features commonly found in traditional, print magazines but done in the form of live presentations. Presentations include poetry readings, live photoshoots, performances from bands, and videos -- all created by members of student publications on campus.

Iffat Fatima | Khoon Diy Baarav (Blood Leaves its Trail): A Screening followed by Discussion with the Filmmaker

The film Khoon Diy Baarav enters the vexed political scenario in Kashmir through the lives of families of the victims of enforced disappearances. The film is a non-sequential account of personal narratives and reminiscences ruptured by violence, undermined by erasure and over-ridden by official documents that challenge truth.
Revisiting the Free Speech Movement at UC Berkeley
Nov 16 | 9am-2pm | 370 Dwinelle Hall
Participants will be introduced to a unit on student activism that was created in concert with the 50th anniversary commemoration of the movement, examine how the FSM has been remembered through memorials on campus, and view artifacts in the collection of the Bancroft Library. As part of this extended learning experience, participants will discuss how student demands on their schools have changed over time, how communities memorialize past events, and how they can use their own local context to discuss with students how past events should be remembered. Registration is required.
Flat Protagonists: a Theory of Novel Character

Professor Figlerowicz will discuss the new theory of novelistic character proposed in her recently published book. The colloquium is open to all. Selections from Flat Protagonists may be found on the event website.

Frantz Fanon: Black Skin, White Mask

Isaac Julien is an accomplished filmmaker and video installation artist, well-known for films like Looking for Langston, a poetic treatment of gay black poet Langston Hughes and the Harlem Renaissance. His multi-screen installations and accompanying photographic works for museums and galleries explore fractured narratives of memory and desire, often uniting elements from dance, painting, sculpture, theater, and music
Noon Concert: University Baroque Ensemble
Nov 29 | 12pm | Hertz Concert Hall
Featuring the Music Department’s varied and diverse performance activities, the Department of Music presents a series of free weekly concerts each semester in Hertz Hall. Inaugurated in 1953, these concerts are very popular and well attended by those on campus and in the wider community. Traditionally on Wednesdays, each concert begins promptly at 12:15 and ends by 1pm.

PMB Updates
During the past few PMB Steering Committee meetings, the team has been working hard on planning PMC events like Hot Drinks and Hot Takes, as well as Student Media Live. We have also been actively discussing our Legacy Tenants’ needs with regard to the space in MLK 177 and new equipment! Publication Spotlight:
The Berkeley Student Journal of Asian Studies is a student publication striving to showcase the best of undergraduate and graduate Asia-related research at Berkeley. It is the goal of the Berkeley Student Journal of Asian Studies to create a community that engages and brings together those interested in Asia-related affairs and academia.
Media Spotlight:
Giant Filmmakers is dedicated to promoting film production among UC Berkeley students, educating students about filmmaking and providing networking opportunities within the film industry. They have weekly meetings on Tuesdays 6-7pm. Throughout the semester we hold workshops which guide members through the process of making films.
