Europe |
Bulgaria: "Praise the Lord we had six visitors at our Easter service this past Sunday," write Al and Diane Mellinger. "Everyone there felt the service was nice and they were challenged by the message." Two of the visitors attended a recent Thursday study. One asked for a Bible when he left. Pray these six individuals might have a hunger for God and will seek Him. Slovakia: Josef and Lynette Sykora report 12 new members were welcomed into the church at Easter. These people have either just come to Christ or were just baptized. Pray for their discipleship and ongoing walk with God. |
Middle East/North Africa |
North Africa: An underground house church movement, predominantly led by lay FM workers, has been growing over the past several years. Leaders in this movement have experienced persecution from police but continue to persevere. Pray for church leaders. Pray open doors will present themselves for new worshipping communities. International Child Care Ministries |
Life for most people in the U.S. is far different than billions of our global neighbors - many of them children and adolescents - daily experience. Here is a sobering reminder of what life beyond our borders is like for many. This is why ICCM sponsorship and our food funds make a big difference.
Average income per person per day: $105 (N. America) .3 billion - 4.5% of world $2 a day 2.6 billion - 40% of world $1 a day 1.0 billion - 15% of world
The top 20% of the world's population consumes 86% of the world's goods.
Life expectancy: North America: 78 years Sub-Saharan Africa: 47 years
In the least-developed countries, 29% of 5 to 14 year-olds are engaged in child labor (UNICEF).
24,500 children died yesterday of preventable causes related to their poverty. Almost 8 million will die in the course of a year. (from The Hole in our Gospel by Richard Stearns)

Needs:
Kenya:
Visiting teachers are needed for an upcoming modular Bible school session. Subjects offered at the August 8 to 20 session include: Homiletics, Wesleyan Theology, Gospel of John, Elders: Cults & Comparative Religions, Pastoral Theology, and Introduction to Counseling. For more information, contact VISA Ministries at 800-342-5531 or ExploreMissions@gmail.com.
Global Studies Intensive-Kenya:
Over the years the Free Methodist Church has grown exponentially around the world. North Americans don't necessarily get to glimpse the excitement of what this means, or hear gripping stories of God at work, or see what passion for lost people looks like when lived out by "everyday" people in other lands. Global Studies Intensive-Kenya will give you perspective on the world Christian movement in a Free Methodist context and could very well give you new perspective on your own life and ministry. GSI-Kenya takes place December 28, 2011, to January 11, 2012. Pray God will direct the planning. Interested in learning more? Contact VISA Ministries 800-342-5531 or ExploreMissions@gmail.com. |
