Late last fall, I made the 10-hour trek to Turkey to visit our mills and see the newest yarns and fibers making their way in the European markets. Innovative textures had begun to work their way back into the marketplace as early as the previous summer - but three new qualities stood out for us above all others: Rozetti Yarns Marina , Tundra , and Flora. In January, I traveled to New York for Vogue Knitting's Inaugural Event, Vogue Knitting Live, with members of my creative team to attend the event and see all that the Manhattan fashion scene has to offer. We spent a few extra days walking in and out of department stores and absorbing all the diversions that Manhattan has to offer, but from our first moments there, the key trends for the 2011 season were obvious: Ruffles are where it's at. In this inaugural issue of the Universal Yarn e-newsletter, check out the details for these 3 new self-ruffling qualities from Rozetti Yarns, distributed by Universal Yarn. Working with these self-texturing yarns is a little different from working with your standard plied yarns, but the finished results are outstanding and work up into fabulous scarves and trims perfect for a wide range of garments - not to mention great gifts. Cold weather isn't so far off - keep those fingers going! And check out the free tutorials, video, and online patterns for these fantastic innovative texture yarns! |

Rozetti Yarns Marina: Texture and Taste
|
| Knitting With Rozetti Yarns Marina |
Marina is a self- texturing yarn new for 2011. Straight off the ball, the yarn appears just like any other chunky ribbon - but as you begin to unravel it, the yarn opens up to reveal an unusual netted matrix.
Stitches are worked into the thin edge of this unique ribbon yarn, creating the multi-layered ruffling texture ideal for warm weather shawls and scarves, and perfect as trim on cool weather shrugs and sweaters.
Those who have knit with it love the color, texture and ease of making creative, free-form style garments and accessories. As one happy customer remarked, the free one-skein scarf pattern was an easy and fast "two-hour" project!

Rozetti Yarns Tundra: Loopy Loveliness
|
| Twister Scarf knit out of Marina and Tundra yarns |
Tundra , a second self-texturing ribbon new for 2011, features a more traditional ruffle, with straight lines of ruffles working back and forth, horizontally across the length of your piece. Similar to Marina, stitches are worked into the edge of the yarn through the "railroad" loops.
Want more ruffles? Less? The amount of texture in the piece is directly related to the number of loops you skip as you work your stitches. Working in each loop means ruffles are closer together; skipping loops means ruffles are further apart.

Rozetti Yarns Flora: Ruffled in Ribbons
|
| Rozetti Yarns Flora in Cornucopia |
Flora adds extra length and texture to ruffles with its fine mesh structure and light-weight sheen. Similar to both Tundra and Marina, stitches are worked into the edge of the ribbon to create the unusual petal-like ruffle. The amount of ruffle in each stitch is related to the distance between the stitches - more distance between the stitches means more ruffle, less distance means less ruffle. Perfect for multi-colored scarves and as a design element on full-size garments. The divine free pattern the Lotus Scarf shows off this yarn to its full advantage. We also have an instructional PDF, "How-To knit with Flora" available for download showing how to knit with this unique and amazing yarn.
