It's A Violation To Water During And 48 Hours After Periods Of Rain

Please Turn Off Automatic Irrigation

The showers we have received since the start of February have really soaked our gardens. Once saturated, our gardens can often go without supplemental irrigation water for several weeks! Please do your part to stop water waste by turning off your irrigation controller before it rains, and water only as needed manually until automatic irrigation is required.

Watering Non-Functional Turf is Restricted

At Commercial, Institutional, Industrial, & within Home Owner's Association areas

Please remember that the California State emergency drought regulations that prohibit the irrigation of non-functional turf at commercial, industrial, and institutional sites, as well as common areas maintained by Homeowners' Associations (HOAs) are still in effect.

Non-functional turf is defined as solely ornamental and not used regularly for human recreational purposes or community events.

Customers are encouraged to convert all non-essential turf to California-friendly landscaping now before our summer-time irrigation season begins.

Winter is a Great Time to Replace Your Lawn

MCWD Offers Incentives

Up to $1.50/Sq Ft for Lawn Replacement

The replacement of your lawn with drought tolerant plants can reduce landscape water demand by 77%! Additional water savings can be achieved by replacing lawns with zero water use alternatives like decorative rock or artificial grass.

Watering a large lawn can be expensive! For customers with lawns, it is common to see that over 50% of their water use goes onto the lawn. The irrigation of lawns often results in much of their water being billed at the highest water cost tier.

MCWD’s incentives may help get your lawn replacement project jump-started.* Learn more about program details by following the link below or contact our staff at conservation@mcwd.org.

*Please note that your project must be pre-approved before any work to replace your lawn can begin.
