Humans have made mistakes since the beginning of time. It’s how we learn both what to do and what not to do. However, when dealing with electrical equipment that’s energized, making a mistake can often result in injury or death. This webinar will explore just how big of an impact human performance can have on keeping employees safe from electrical hazards. We’ll also examine what requirements exist around the human performance factor, such as how NFPA 70E requires that an employer’s electrical safety program include a risk assessment procedure that accounts for the possibility of human error. Attendees will take away methods to account for this along with strategies to mitigate and prevent mistakes from happening in the first place. We’ll explore how an employer can train their workforce for optimal performance around energized electrical equipment. Lastly, this presentation will incorporate an example of a job planning procedure that aims to identify precursors to human error and strategies for mitigation of these precursors on human performance.

DEREK VIGSTOL is a licensed master electrician who serves as an electrical safety consultant and trainer for E-Hazard LLC. Previously, he served as the senior electrical safety specialist for the National Fire Protection Association as well as subject matter expert for numerous industry organizations focused on electrical safety. Derek is also co-host of E-Hazard’s podcast focused on electrical safety, “Plugged into Safety,” available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
