Dear Friends of AHP,

We wanted to make you aware of two events discussing the science behind ashwagandha and medicinal mushrooms. In recent years, ashwagandha has reached among the best-selling of botanicals in the industry. Driven by a combination of rapidly emerging scientific research, marketing, and consumer demand for immune wellness and vitality, ashwagandha has remained a premier strengthening but relaxing tonifier for a bit more than 2,000 years.

           As most in the industry are aware, in recent years there have been concerns raised internationally regarding its safety, specifically, a claimed abortifacient effect, possible negative effects on thyroid and endocrine function, and reports of liver toxicity. All of these issues will be addressed fully in the upcoming revision of AHP’s Ashwagandha Monograph and Therapeutic Compendium, which is in its finalization stages. Different quality issues exist regarding mushrooms that span their identity, production, and chemistry.

           No doubt all of these issues will be discussed in both of these presentations, which are free to the public. See you there.
