We had a big winner last month in our CA$H COW contest! Congrats to Jeff Lawson of Hudson for finding a $100 jug.
We will label 5 jugs with the big cash prize of $100 in May. Best chances to find them are right away at the beginning of the month! But make sure to keep looking throughout the month as we mark ten $5 jugs every week!
Look inside the jug toward the label to see a "5" or "100".

Is chocolate milk bad for your teeth?
|
Research suggests the calcium and phosphorus in milk can help maintain the integrity of our teeth. But what about the added sugar in flavored milk?
Flavored milk contains the same nine essential nutrients as white milk
; it simply has some additional ingredients like added sugar and flavoring. Hansen's chocolate milk starts with our 1% milk and has fewer grams of sugar than most other chocolate milk on the dairy shelf.
Although flavored milk contains added sugars, it contributes only about 4 percent of the added sugars in the diets of U.S. children, on average, and
may actually help them
meet dairy recommendations
. The
National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2001-2012 found that children who drank flavored milk drank more milk overall and had higher calcium intakes than those who did not drink flavored milk.
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes that some added sugars can be included as part of a healthy diet to help
increase consumption of nutrient-rich foods
as long as added sugars do not exceed 10 percent of total calories.
To enjoy flavored milk while still maintaining healthy teeth, follow these simple tips:
- Drink flavored milk with meals rather than between meals.
- Drink, rather than sip, flavored milk and other sweetened beverages to decrease the time teeth are exposed to sugar.

Our May Cow of the Month thinks she's queen of the world!
Dalany steps up on the ledge in front of the feed alley every day to look down on her royal subjects. She is the only cow in the barn to do this.
Her highness
is 3 years old and has given birth to two calves: one bull and a heifer named Doshy.
Dalany has a reason to believe she's superior to other cows. Her grandmother, Dazzle, was the highest milk producer in the history of the Hansen farm. At 120 pounds of milk a day, Dalany is off to a great start to shoot for her grandmother's record!

Cooking with Hansen's
|
Flip your dip! Instead of the typical sour cream dip base, try Country View Dairy yogurt (from Hawkeye, Iowa) with artichokes and roasted red peppers in this recipe adapted from Midwest Dairy. Starred ingredients can be purchased at Hansen's Dairy stores.
Artichoke and Roasted Red Pepper Yogurt Dip
Servings: 5
Prep time: 15 minutes
Directions
Combine red peppers and artichokes. Pat dry with a paper towel. Add salt, cayenne pepper, minced garlic and chopped green onions (white part only). Mix with plain yogurt until blended. Pour into serving bowl. Sprinkle the remaining green onions over the dip. Cover and chill at least 3 hours or overnight for flavors to blend. Serve with tortilla chips.
