2022 Caroline Hewins Scholarship Winner
Amanda Rodarte of Los Angeles, California, is the 2022 recipient of the Caroline M. Hewins Scholarship, given annually to promising library school students who intend to become children’s librarians. She is studying for her studying for her Master of Library and information Science at the University of Southern California.

by Elbert Weinberg
Born in Hartford, Elbert Weinberg was a talented and highly praised sculptor. This plaster sculpture located on the main floor of the Downtown Library celebrates the goddess Demeter, who in Greek mythology presided over agriculture, the harvest and the fertility of the earth.

Picturing the Pandemic
Images from the Pandemic Journaling Project

This exhibit features images and journal entries created by people around the globe telling their pandemic stories. Also on display will be a collection of photographs by Hartford-based photographers Andy Hart, Jasmine Jones and Ray Shaw capturing Hartford’s public sphere in 2020: protests, parks, buses, COVID-19 testing clinics and outdoor performances.
Come for the exhibit opening to hear from the team behind the project and some of those whose work is featured. Refreshments will be served.
