signsReminder About Posting Signs

A traditional warm-weather activity for families and neighborhoods is to hold garage sales. Not only are you outside enjoying the sun, you're interacting with your community and re-homing  unneeded items. It's a win-win!

During spring and summer months, we often see garage sale signs posted on median strips, sidewalks and telephone, street sign and traffic light poles. While many citizens remove their signs after their garage sales, some do not. These signs create visual blight in our beautiful city and often linger for quite some time. When signs are removed, they sometimes leave sticky residue, staples or nails that must be removed by City staff. In addition, did you know that is a violation of Burlingame Municipal Code  section 22.40.030 - Signs On The Public Right-Of-Way?

The City asks that your garage sale signs remain on your property and that you use alternate means of advertising your garage sales such as social media, blogs, community bulletin boards, local newspapers, word of mouth, etc. Thank you for your cooperation and happy bargain hunting!
