Waterloo Treats of the Week for October — if you dare!

Customer of the Month

The October Customer of the Month is Jörg Rochlitzer of Waterloo.

Jörg first tasted our milk while in Parkersburg, and noticed our storefront once he moved to Waterloo.

"When we entered the store, your welcoming and friendly staff let us try your delicious ice cream and milk. Now we shop there very often," he said.

The quality and taste keep him coming back.

"My favorite products are the cream-top whole milk; the heavy cream in the cute small containers; the cheese curds; and the mint, raspberry, strawberry and vanilla ice creams."

"I love to shop locally, to support local farmers and their produce," he continued. "I grew up in a farming community, and buying local is important."

Cow of the Month

In honor of Halloween, the October Cow of the Month is being featured for best costume in the herd.

Girly is dressing up as a cowgirl this year. Doesn't she look sharp in her bright pink bandana?

Girly is only 2 years old and is an average producer, recording about 80 pounds of milk per day. However, she is an extremely slow milker. A normal cow usually takes about 5 minutes to empty her udder after being hooked up to the milking machine. It takes Girly about 12 minutes!

Thankfully she makes up for her slow speed by being extremely friendly and willing to let us humans dress her up. She gets a pass for being a good sport.

Cooking with Hansen's

Are you looking for a hearty sandwich to go with your fall soups, stews and chili? Try a Gourmet Grilled Cheese! You can use a variety of cheeses, sliced meat or breads that we carry in our stores. These could also be made into open-faced sandwiches and topped with a dollop of Westby's sour cream or parmesan cheese. Remember to use this month's coupon toward the purchase of your ingredients!

Gourmet Grilled Cheese

Prep/Cook Time: 10 min

Servings: Varies

Ingredients

Hansen's Dairy Smoked Cured Beef*
Maple Leaf Cranberry or Blueberry White Cheddar Cheese*
Big Sky Honey Whole Wheat bread*
Hansen’s Dairy Butter,* softened
8 oz. (1 container) Westby’s Sour Cream* (optional)

*Items that can be purchased at Hansen’s Dairy Stores

Directions

Heat medium/large skillet or griddle to medium heat.
Cut cheese into thin slices.
Butter 1 side of each piece of bread being used, and lay buttered side down onto hot skillet or griddle.
Place a slice of beef on top of the bread and a slice (or 2) of cheese on top of beef.
Top with another slice of bread, buttered side up.
Cook for a few minutes, until cheese starts to melt and bottom slice of bread is toasted. Flip sandwich and continue cooking until the other side is toasted.
Enjoy!
