Early June 2022

Librarian's Corner

Everything seems a little more golden as we wind our way into Summer. Granted, that’s thanks in large part to the blanket of pollen that coats every outdoor surface, but the sunshine and warm temperatures add to the glow, too!

A Heartfelt Thank You

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Mark Morrow, who has made a generous donation to the Library on behalf of the estate of his mother, Margaret S. Morrow. This gift will be used to promote literacy and the love of reading and writing in Freedom’s children, especially those for whom these skills do not come easily. Margaret was an exemplary elementary school teacher who brought a love of reading to many students, and we hope to live up to her legacy and generosity.

Join us on Friday, June 3rd at 7pm via Zoom for Well-Versed, a monthly reading of poetry in the public domain. This month's theme is "To the Moon and Back."

An on-demand recording will be available sometime after the live broadcast.

See the Well-Versed page on our website for more information.

A New Hampshire Icon

Join us on Thursday, June 9th at 6pm for a presentation by Caroline Hughes of the Loon Conservancy, focusing on the biology and life history of loons, the threats that loons face, and the work that the Loon Preservation Committee has been performing since 1975 to help recover New Hampshire's threatened loon population. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Not Quite Yet

We'll be accepting book donations this year between June 25th and July 30th. Please hold on to your donations until then--we don't have a lot of space at the moment to store things! Please don't be sneaky and leave them in the vestibule--or worse, in the book drop! Also, when it's time, please make sure to bring donations to the Circulation Desk; there's not enough space in the vestibule for items to be left there.

Pen Pals

If you're sending mail to the Library, please remember to use our mailing address: PO Box 159, Freedom, NH 03836. Thanks!

Kindle Some Excitement for Reading

20200503200917_OverDrive-Libby-AppSonosWeb image

If you're heading out on the open road sometime this summer, remember that we have two Kindle Fires that can be checked out for your trip! Both Kindles have the Libby app pre-loaded; all you have to do is log in using your Library card, and you can download eBooks and eAudiobooks to enjoy. (Please don't read the eBooks while driving, though!) If you want to check one out, or have any questions, just stop in, and we'll be glad to get you set up!

Still Out There...

Not much time left to find a Golden Ticket! No one has found one yet--but they're out there! 6 Golden Tickets are hiding in the J section of the Library: fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels. You won't find a slip of paper or anything; a ticket will only reveal itself if the book that has it is checked out. See the Kids page on the website for more information.

Planning is still in the early stages for this year's One Book, One Valley events. If you'd like to help ensure that we get the best lineup possible for this year's festivities, 1B1V has a GoFundMe page. We'll keep you updated on what this year's selection will be, and other programs related to it.
