Public Information Meeting on Fremont Center Improvement

The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) will hold the second Public Information Meeting for potential roadway improvements to the intersection of Fremont Center Road and IL Route 60 on May 18.

The study also includes the area bounded by Peterson Road, IL Route 60, and IL Route 83 in the Village of Grayslake, the Village of Mundelein, and Fremont Township.

LCDOT has developed and evaluated conceptual improvement alternatives which will be available for public review and comment at this meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the conceptual alternatives, discuss evaluation criteria for the alternatives, identify alternatives for further study and gather your input.

What are they doing out at 176/60/83 on the roads?

This project is under the jurisdiction of the Village of Mundelein.
Here are some of the project highlights:

-The addition of left turn lanes on 176 at 60/83
-A continuous right turn lane along 60/83 from 176 to 83
-Travel lane alignment improvements
-Drainage enhancements
-New traffic signals
-New asphalt pavement surface
-New pavement markings
-Southbound lane addition on 60 from the Village limit to Schank
-Minor pavement widening on 176 from Del Webb Blvd. to Schank

When will the bike path open up on Peterson by Allegheny?

The bike path is currently closed until the crossing ramps can be constructed at Peterson and Alleghany. Based on the current schedule, the contractor is hoping to get all the needed concrete and asphalt associated with the bike path finished around Mid-May. At that time we will sweep any debris off the path, and remove the "Bike Path Closed" signs.

Property Taxes to be Mailed May 2

Remember, this is the only bill you will receive. Property taxes will be due in two equal installments. This year, the due dates will be June 2 and September 2.

The envelopes provided will have the return address P.O. Box 1030, Bedford Park, IL. This is our P.O. box located in Bedford Park, IL, and is the closet Post Office to our lock box facility. Please use these envelopes when mailing in your payments.

Senior Homestead Exemption

If you are 65 or older and a homeowner, have you filed for your senior homestead exemption? We see people all the time Who haven't filed for this.

This exemption lowers the equalized assessed value of your property by $5,000.00, and may be claimed in addition to the General Homestead Exemption. To receive this exemption, you must:
Have lived on the property on or before January 1st of the tax year.
Have reached age 65 during the tax year.
To apply for the exemption you need to visit the Fremont Township Assessor's office. If you have questions, please call our assessor's office at 847 223-2846.

Our office received a wonderful phone call from the Mundelein Home Depot. They generously donated a freezer to the Fremont Township Food Pantry.

Mundelein Community Days Parade

The parade will be held on Sunday, July 3rd at 2 pm. This year the parade will form in the Mundelein Metra Station parking lot. Due to the construction on Hawley Street, the parade will run west on Division Street from the Metra lot to Midlothian Road north on Midlothian to Hawley Street, then to Mundelein High School. The reviewing stand will be set-up on the southeast corner of Lincoln and Division. For more information call Mike Flynn at 847-949-3223.

Peterson Road
While the majority of the work for this project was completed in 2015, crews are back on site for some remaining work. They will be grading the medians, planting the medians, finalizing all remaining landscaping, and placing the permanent pavement markings. The traffic signals are scheduled to be installed starting next week.

Daily lane closures are planned while the remaining work is finished. Please use caution when driving through the construction zone. Watch for trucks and equipment entering and leaving the job site.

Remembering a Special Volunteer

Last year we planted this Serviceberry tree in memory of our Fremont Township Garden volunteer Sharon Polisky. Today it is blooming and makes us think of her!

Mulch Sale at Mundelein High School

The Boys and Girls Basketball Teams at Mundelein High School will be having their annual mulch sale to benefit their sports teams on April 30 - May 1 and May 7-8. The sale will be held in the West parking lot of MHS on these Saturdays (April 30 and May 7) from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and on the two Sundays (May 1 and May 8) from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Mulch (brown, dark brown and red) will be sold in bags for $4.25 per bag or 4 bags for $15.00. Natural mulch will be sold for $3.75 per bag or 4 bags for $13.00.

Park-on-Park the 16th annual cruise night season opens May 11 at the corner of Park and Seymour Streets, and continues on the second Wednesday of the month through September. The cruise night specializes in pre-1977 vehicles only. The event draws some of the finest classic vehicles in the area. This popular and well-organized event, coordinated and staffed by On The Road Classics & Mundelein Community Connection, has something for owners and spectators alike.
