Fremont Township has renewed its contract with Groot Industries, Inc. for waste hauling services. The Township first began receiving services from Groot on April 1, 2020, and has since received significant positive feedback from residents regarding the quality and reliability of service. Based on this strong community input, the Township has chosen to continue its partnership with Groot.
As part of the renewed agreement, rates will remain unchanged in 2026, followed by a 3% annual increase in subsequent years. This is a reduction from the previous contract, which included a 3.5% annual increase.
Seasonal landscape waste service has been reduced to $165 for the season. Residents may also choose to include food scrap pickup with landscape waste service for $200 for the eight-month season.
The contract includes a six-week leaf collection program with leaf vacuum service. In addition, the pay-per-bag sticker—available for purchase at Jewel-Osco—has been reduced to $3.00 per bag.
Bulky item pickup has again been included, allowing for one item per week on an ongoing basis.
Unincorporated Fremont Township residents may also opt for curbside collection of up to six electronic items on the second Friday of each month at no additional cost. Residents must schedule this service in advance by contacting Groot at 847-693-2700.
Items requiring more than one person to collect (including televisions over 50 pounds) will incur an additional fee.
Groot will also collect refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, washers, dryers, dishwashers, hot water tanks, dehumidifiers, and other white goods for $40.88 per item. Residents must call 847-693-2700 to schedule collection, and items should not be placed at the curb until the evening before the scheduled pickup.
Seniors are now able to request 35-gallon bins, providing a more manageable option for waste and recycling.
