Fresh Air: News from Breathe PA

Fall 2024

Letter from the Director

Fall 2024 is upon us, and with it, the structure and routine of the Back to School Season. Over the summer, Breathe PA leadership and staff took the opportunity to rejuvenate, reflect, revise, and plan for the school year ahead. Our school-based programming is shaped to best fit the needs of the communities we serve. For example, as new research on vaping trends arise, we respond by updating our curriculum to educate and equip school administrators and parents accordingly. When new environmental conditions are present in our region, Breathe PA answers the call to support asthmatic children and adults suffering from adverse conditions.

A highlight of the summer was Breathe PA’s first annual Day of Service. We spent the day on the North Side of Pittsburgh creating a beautiful garden for the California-Kirkbride Neighbors, a local community group. When we arrived, the space was a blighted lot. After a morning spent weeding, edging, planting, and mulching, we left the space as a beautiful and welcoming area. These small, yet intentional days, provide perspective on how Breathe PA contributes to making western Pennsylvania a healthier and more vibrant place to live, work, grow, and play.

As the fall and school year progress, we thank each and every one of you for your support. Using our Day of Service project as a metaphor for the year ahead, we are committed to ensuring that our work leaves each space a little brighter than when we arrived.
