We're answering your commonly asked questions!
How can I control mosquitoes?
The best strategy is to eliminate breeding areas by removing any standing water. Clean the gutters, dump plant saucers, replace birdbath water, etc. Add biological controls, such as dissoluble mosquito larvicide, to small ponds or containers you can’t empty.
How often do I need to water my lawn/plants?
Most plants and grass need approximately 1 inch of water per week. You should water between 2:00am and noon, allowing time to dry and prevent diseases. Avoid wetting plant flowers and leaves. You can also use a timer for lawns and drip irrigation for landscape plants or vegetable gardens to prevent overwatering.
How can I keep my annual flowers blooming all summer?
Water whenever the soil feels dry, deadhead (remove dead flower heads) regularly, and trim excess growth to encourage new blossoms.
How do I maintain my shrubs during hot, dry weather?
Water deeply a few times a week and add a 2- to 3-inch thick layer of organic mulch, such as pine straw or pine bark, to keep the soil moist. Plant any new shrubs in the fall.
What if my landscape is too shady for grass?
You can still have some green in your lawn with shade-tolerant groundcover plants, such as mondo grass, asiatic jasmine, lilyturf, and Japanese pachysandra.
