VOLINA CROSS DUKES -BLACK EXCELLENCE AWARD WINNER
Congratulations to the Rev. Volina Cross Dukes, Honorably Retired member of our presbytery, who is a  Milwaukee Times 2019 Black Excellence Award honoree in the religion category.  The Black Excellence Awards started 34 years ago, in conjunction with Black History Month as a way of "Saluting the Best of the Community," to highlight and honor individuals who exemplify the best qualities of leadership. The ceremony will be held on February 15th at the Italian Community Center. We rejoice with Vi as she receives this well deserved award!
WELCOME TO KATE HOPTA!
The Presbytery is pleased to welcome Kate Hopta as our new Communications Coordinator.   She will begin on January 7, 2019.  Kate comes to us with a long history of non-profit experience at church
camps and, most recently, as the   Executive Director for The Arc of Jefferson and Clearfield Counties in Pennsylvania.  Kate knows the nitty-gritty of the Presbyterian Church (USA), having graduated with her M.Div. from Louisville Seminary and having served the church in various capacities and levels.  She is married to Rev. Brett Swanson, who is co-pastor at Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church, and they have one daughter, Zoey, who is almost 2 years old.  Her experience in editing and publishing information on both large university websites and smaller non-profit websites, as well as developing and implementing social media plans, will be a wonderful complement to the ministries of the Presbytery.   Welcome Kate!

GET TO KNOW OUR PASTORS
WH O WAS THIS?
T his pastor has been frisked twice by security before being allowed to worship.

This is Bruce Jones, Interim Pastor at Forest Park in New Berlin.

"In 1992, during my first trip to Scotland, their General Assembly was meeting and being the National Church security was tight as maybe the Queen might attend. Manholes and garbage cans were bolted shut. I was in my 20's with a backpack with sneakers and shorts to go hiking at Holy Rood following worship. We were suspiciously casual in our dress for the Moderator leading worship.

In 1996, a trip to Israel for Seminary and we went to worship at Manger Square for Orthodox Christmas Eve (January 5th). We went through two metal detectors and frisked to enter with the thousand of other suspicious characters attending Greek, Russian, and Coptic services at the Church of the Nativity."

Unfortunately no one guessed correctly but keep trying and thanks for playing!
