HEALING THROUGH ACTION
The day you've been waiting for is coming.  No, not the election; not a vaccine.  The next Presbytery Gathering!  We will meet on September 29 by Zoom, and registration is opening this week.  It's a time (4-6 pm) not to miss.

We'll address business, including our 2021 budget, per capita discussion (everyone's favorite), a proposal to become a Matthew 25 Presbytery, new policies for pastors including minimum compensation standards (another favorite), and introductions of new minister members.  We will worship together for the first time since February.

If that weren't enough to get you registered now, we'll be introducing our new Gathering theme of...(READ MORE)

JESUS CHRIST & THE "DIVIDING WALL": RACE & GOD'S MISSION
October 7, 14, 21, and 28, 2020, at 6: 30 p.m. (CST)
Mission matters. Race matters. Are you or your church looking for resources on how to have deep conversations on race? As our nation continues to grapple with the consequence of racial injustice, we as Christians need to have a truthful conversation with one another on how our understanding of race impact the way we engage in God's mission. Join us for this virtual McClure Lectures and WMI Month of Mission Series, where we will gather online for four Wednesday evenings to explore issues of racial justice with world-class speakers. This will be an opportunity to connect and learn with people from all over the country. Churches will also be organizing watch parties to gather their members for guided discussion following plenary presentations.

This event is free to everyone, but registration is required.  Click here to find out more about this Wednesday mission series, register, and download materials to share.

The Presbytery of Milwaukee is a proud co-sponsor of Jesus Christ and the "Dividing Wall": Race and God's Mission.
NEWS FROM THE DENOMINATION
A CALL TO OBSERVE CHRISTIAN & CITIZEN SUNDAY ON SEPTEMBER 20TH
The Office of Mission Engagement and Support in conjunction with the PC(USA)'s Office of Public Witness in Washington, D.C., wants to  ensure that congregations are prepared for Christian and Citizen Sunday on September 20th.

Because it is the duty of every person to exercise their right to vote, the Presbyterian Church (USA) has designated that Sunday as a time for a special emphasis on what it means to be a "Christian and Citizen."  On Christian and Citizen Sunday, Presbyterians are reminded that both Jesus and John Calvin placed a significant emphasis on the role of civic engagement as central to the life of faith...(READ MORE).

CHILDREN AND DIVERSITY: TELLING STORIES THAT EDUCATE
Creating a world where diversity is embraced begins with education, and many congregations are focusing their attention this fall on offering online book discussions specifically on how to dismantle racism. Christian educators are doing likewise, using Zoom as a storytelling opportunity to teach children about the inclusive love of God.

Flyaway Books, a children's book division of the Presbyterian Publishing Corp. that was launched in 2018 to offer books that carry the themes of diversity and inclusion, is providing educators with books that help children understand today's pressing social issues. Many of the books are multicultural in their artwork and characters.  Find out more about Fly Away Books and new titles being released.
MORE VIDEO RESOURCES THAN EVER BEFORE
With more communities worshipping virtually, PC(USA) Special Offerings is proud to bring you a number of videos you can incorporate into your upcoming worship services. From the popular Pastor Ryan's Sixty Second Sermons, to a Children's Message recorded in English and Spanish, to testimonials provided by International Peacemakers of the past, these videos are an incredible resource as you promote the Peace & Global Witness Offering in your congregation and mid council.

NEARING 5,OOO MEALS GIVEN AWAY ON THE SOUTH SIDE, HUNGRY HEARTS HOPES TO EXTEND ITS RUN
When the Hungry Hearts relief organization first began offering free meals in May on the south side to people in need, it took two or three hours before the last meal was gone. Now it takes a half-hour.

That tells the Rev. Karen Hagen, an organizer of Hungry Hearts, that the need for the meals continues.

Three different restaurants prepare the meals each week, and the restaurants are paid $10 for each meal. Besides feeding those in need, the program is meant to help keep restaurants afloat while the pandemic sharply reduces their revenue.

Nineteen restaurants have contributed meals so far, most of them on the south side.
