Thank you everyone who joined us for our 2nd Annual client, board member, and volunteer appreciation BBQ!

We had a blast and enjoyed scrumptious food prepared by our friends at The Academy, ice cream from Ben and Jerry's Sarasota, beautiful decorations from Sun Served Bespoke Picnics and special moments captured by Lori Sax.

Each of our residents received a gift and many spoke about their past and more importantly, their present gratitude, and future of hope. You help make this possible!

Thank you to everyone who came so each one of our clients could mingle and feel the love. We deeply appreciate you and what you have done to support our mission.

A special thanks to UNI Together Foundation for sponsoring our event.

November sets off our 2nd Annual Home is Where the Heart is Campaign.

Your generous support this year has helped us get to where we are at today. We now have 7 homes in both Sarasota and Manatee counties that serve 43 formerly homeless men and women. Thank you for making this possible.

We need your support in 2022 to help us maintain and expand our offerings through critical investments in:

  • Acquisition of more housing
  • Enhanced client identification and outreach
  • Expanded self-care, skill building and interpersonal programming
  • Expansion of integrated art and community projects
  • Volunteer recruitment and training
  • Increased access to community programs, services and resources
  • Making SHH a premier workplace
  • Purchasing goods and services for client care and home maintenance
  • Post-program client support

Flipping the Script

We know it is our duty to educate our community on the realities of homelessness and mental illness. We also cherish opportunities to give our clients a platform to have their voices heard.

Recently, we welcomed a class of 3rd-year medical students and Pineview students to one of our homes to hear presentations put together from our clients.

It was an awe-inspiring event and here an excerpt from what Morgan thought about it:

"Hearing clients recount their life experiences and seeing them able to smile when speaking about where they are now was inspirational. They all displayed vulnerability, resiliency, and dedication towards maintaining the self-sufficiency Second Heart Homes has helped them achieve.

Our short time together certainly opened my eyes to hardships that many of us are fortunate enough to be ignorant of. Such conversations are crucial to combat the stigmatization surrounding mental health, homelessness, and other disparities that are way too prevalent nationwide."

-Morgan (MS3 FSU College of Medicine)

ART IN THE COMMUNITY

SHH worked on a community art project with Sarasota Art Museum of Ringling College.

This project is on display until February 25th.

Every second Sunday of the month is free to the public.

Let us know if you are interested in volunteering to take clients to the museum & more!

Don't Forget! The Louis and Gloria Flanzer Trust is still matching gifts up to $500. See blow for more detail.

Thank you for your kind heart.
