Colorado Plateau Backpacks Horseshoe Canyon
Our first course of the year, Colorado Plateau, has been traveling through Utah for just over two weeks! The class has been backpacking through Horseshoe Canyon, and stopped to resupply in Hanksville before heading into their second section: Dirty Devil Canyon! Marliese Baer shared more from their adventure in a journal entry, which you can read in its entirety at the link below. It's entitled "A Love Letter to Horseshoe Canyon" and beautifully relates the new experiences and emotions Marliese and her classmates are having.
"This landscape is a constant reminder that we are small, both in size and in time.
Dinosaur tracks and petroglyphs remind me to ground myself, slot canyons both humble and embolden me, the stars and moon put me in my place. The immense power of this land presses into me with every step, every gust of wind. It is exhilarating and frightening, both at once. So maybe it is love: exhilarating, frightening, immense, powerful."

Two Opportunities to Help Us Reach Our Goals
Alumni often remark that a WRFI course was the most important part of their college education.

We believe that these types of experiences should be accessible to anyone and everyone who wants to participate. In order to make our courses more affordable, we offer a series of stackable tuition reductions and, in addition to these financial aid offerings, WRFI has additional scholarships available for students who need more support.

In order to provide these various financial aid opportunities, we are asking for your help. This year, we are focusing all of our Give Big Gallatin Valley and Missoula Gives fundraising around providing more scholarships and financial aid than WRFI ever has in the past.

Featured Course: Montana Afoot and Afloat
One of our favorite courses, with scholarships available! This Fall course, worth 15 total credits, is all about examining the relationship between people and the land, specifically focusing on areas throughout Montana. Approximately half of the course is spent in the backcountry, from backpacking through wilderness areas, kayaking on the Missouri River, visiting Yellowstone National Park, and more. The other half is spent connecting with locals who depend on and care about the land they inhabit.
