Since moving to the Bay Area in 2008, Havana-born singer Felix Samuel has gained attention for his work in such Latin- and Cuban-rooted bands as Los Boleros, Pellejo Seco, Tito y su Son de Cuba, and Jesus Diaz y su QBA, as well as Orquesta la Moderna Tradicin. His father was the legendary "Sammy" Samuel, lead singer of Cuba's revered charanga band Ritmo Oriental. Felix began his professional career at the age of 19 in Havana performing in Cabaret Parisien at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba in Havana. He went on to sing in many ensembles touring Cuba and Latin America. After stints in Europe and Mozambique, Samuel moved here and found featured spots in a number of bands. Now he leads his own group in performing the music he was born into, putting his own style on it.
