Parasha Vayera

SHABBAT SHALOM

שבת שלום

Parashat Sheet sponsored by Hilary Glass and family to commemorate the 1st yahrzeit of Carey Glass z"l.

Torah on Monday with Rabbi Malomet Let's look carefully at the first scene in the Parasha. What do we make of the way Abraham interacts with Sarah? A close reading. Enjoy!

Parasha Talk Watch till the end. A mic drop moment, on the Akedah. What is a ram doing there anyway? But watch/listen also to our discussion of Sarah and Isaac. It's all good. Shalom al Yisrael!

Please let us know if you or a family member are ill so that Rabbi Malomet and our Chesed Outrech Committee can reach out.

SECURITY

  • Stay vigilant
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Know the nearest exits
  • If you see or hear something, say something
  • ONLY USE THE "PARKING LOT ENTRANCE" to enter or exit the building - be sure the door closes securely behind you
  • Our Security Guard reserves the right to examine all bags and packages. Ask our Security Guard to examine any item someone might have brought in or be attempting to bring in to the Temple.

An unaccompanied bag can be a subject of concern. Please do NOT leave bags of any type outside or inside the Temple, which could require staff to contact HPPD.

On-line or In-person

Food, such as cheese, pretzels and cereal will be served. Please contact the Temple office if your child has any food allergies you would like us to know.

YOU'RE INVITED TO SERVE AS A GREETER!!

We've created a "SIGNUP GENIUS" to give everyone an opportunity to welcome everyone joining us for Shabbat and holiday services by serving as a GREETER!

Please click here to sign up for your date(s) of choice, through Dec. 27.

Click here to select the date you will serve one of our GREETERS!

SISTERHOOD

WHAT' EXACTLY IS IMPROV NIGHT???

Simple answer ... It's about joining with friends, family and community in a warm setting to relax and laugh.

You do not have to act or perform in any way. The comedy group that is coming will solicit ideas from the audience (that's our part) and create comedy sketches.

Everyone else participates by enjoying the evening.

JOIN THE FUN!

Next up: Nov. 5: The Wandering Jews of New York City

YALANET AFFINITY GROUPS

for 20 - 40 year olds

The YALANet microgrant is a way to create active networks of young adults, ages 20-40, who share the same interests and passions. A YALANet is an activity or special interest group of your choice (Shabbat dinner, outing, sporting event, game night, Jewish holiday celebration, etc).

YALANet Captains (the YALANet coordinator) will receive a $50 stipend (via an Amazon gift card) for their personal use, as well as up to $100 operational funds to run their YALANet. Each Captain is expected to run one event, with at least 6 participants (who will be required to register in advance).

If you run a Shabbat or Jewish Holiday gathering/meal, receive an extra $25 toward your expenses!

NOTE: YALANets are meant for individual users and small groups, not for synagogue or organizational groups.

USY

Please remember, scholarships are available for conventions and other programs, such as Chidush Yisroel

Early Bird USY WINTER CONVENTION pricing of $499 ends October 30, so now’s the time to lock in your spot!

WAYS TO HELP ISRAEL

WAYS TO KEEP INFORMED

CONVERSATIONS

As shared by Rabbi Malomet during his Yom Kippur sermon:

FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE  weekly podcast presented by Ark Media and the Shalom Hartman Institute, hosted by Donniel Hartman and Yossi Klein Halevi. The podcast draws its name from the Jewish concept of machloket l’shem shemayim, “disagreeing for the sake of heaven,” which is exactly what takes place each week as Donniel and Yossi discuss the moral aspects of topics affecting Israel, world Jewry, and the future of Zionism.
