Consolation and suffering...in a powerfully and painfully relevant reading from 1 Corinthians
, we ponder the connection between suffering and ultimate peace. They are connected. But we quickly forget when we get beyond the places of our suffering, the consolation and care we received. Now is a time to remember. To hear the pain and suffering and to see the people who are suffering. They are not separate from us. Holy and Mighty God, You sent Jesus to join us in our human pain in order to ultimately declare victory over it. If we follow Him, we will end up joining others in suffering. But the suffering is never the end of the story. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WONDERING...REAL QUESTIONS FROM REAL PEOPLE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT GLC
|
How do you deal faithfully with conversations about racism/privilege/entitlement?
We are all on a journeyβ¦just in general for our faith, but in particular with conversations about racism. Like all faithful journeys, it requires creating space, shifting perspectives and listening carefully. Pay attention for the things that make you feel defensive or angry or sad. Donβt judge yourself or others too harshly. Listen. Find a community of people; at church or elsewhere who are in a different place in the journey. Seek out ways to get different perspectives and be aware of all the ways we deal with people with different perspectives from our own. A great place to start is the documentary series by Henry Louis Gates, Jr called, βThe African Americans; Many Rivers to Crossβ available to stream on Amazon Prime.

Celebrating Holy Communion
|
|
We will once again celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion! During this time we can take bread only and reverence the cup.
Hereβs the basics (more details to come next week):
- You can continue to fast from communion.
- You can request a home visit with accommodations for distancing.
- Small group Eucharist (9 people plus PT) all IDPH guidelines followed, spoken liturgy and reflection ending with a celebration of holy communion.
- Drive-through/home communion celebrated on Sundays. You can have your own bread at home (And still come to drive through!) or receive hosts at church.
We have spent months thinking through this and looking forward to it. Please watch your e-news next week for specific instructions for Sunday, June 14.

Council response to re-opening
|
|
The Geneva Lutheran Council met on 6/3 to determine our way forward amid Illinois lifting the closure of houses of worship due to Covid 19. After lengthy discussion and prayerful reflection, the Council voted in line with current health department guidelines recommending gatherings of 10 people or less. This means at the present, we will continue to have remote services and limit gathering en masse.
As such, we hope that our current format will continue to fill you with the Spirit until we can revisit the issue in the near future! The Church Staff continues to pour their hearts into the services. Thank you for your patience, prayers, laughs, comments, and support! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to any Council member at
glccouncil@genevalutheran.org.
Love in Christ,
The Geneva Lutheran Church Council
