Weigh in on DCCA's Debate Series
|
|
DCCA is considering hosting a series of moderated discussions on issues which are locally contentious and on which reasonable people disagree. The discussions would be under the working title of "Dupont Circle in a changing city - a debate series."
For COVID reasons these discussions will initially take place via Zoom. Derek McGinty (formerly WAMU and more recently, until his retirement, ABC and WUSA's Capital Download) has agreed to chair. Some of the tough questions that we have in mind are:
- Does Dupont need to increase density if it’s going to play its part in ensuring affordable housing in DC?
- Are we sure that segregation is a distant memory for Dupont?
- Is a historically gay neighborhood now just history?
- Can Connecticut Avenue ever regain its luster as a retail center?
We are looking for experts who can speak with deep knowledge on topics such as these.
If you have suggestions for topics, or are an expert or know of experts who are prepared to make a reasoned argument on a locally-important question and to debate with those who disagree, please let us know. Click here to email your suggestions to Nick Manning.

DCCA Sets Up Temporary Fencing for Freedom Garden
|
|
A car recently ran into and destroyed the wrought iron fencing and garden that has been carefully cultivated and cared for by DCCA volunteers. After surveying the damage the DCCA Board sprung into action and funded the supplies for temporary fencing to protect the garden while we work with DDOT to replace the damaged iron fencing.
Thanks to Board Members Marcy Logan, Joe Caruso, and Tom Reiter for coordinating talks with the city, gathering supplies, and the elbow grease needed to install a temporary fence to protect the garden and provide a visual barrier that will hopefully prevent further crashes.

All residents are invited to join the Metropolitan Police Department's (Second District) monthly "Coffee with the Commander" event for a conversation over a cup of coffee and pastries.
