SHOULD CHRISTIANS CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN?
__________________
Although many feel that Halloween is an innocent holiday, there are dark roots to its origin. Most have never been taught where it came from. Satan always creates a counterfeit to deceive people from what is real or godly. He created a counterfeit holiday which we call Halloween to offset All Hallows Day. It was called All Hallows Eve and later became known as Halloween.
Where did All Hallows Eve (October 31, the eve before Nov. 1) come from? In the seventh century, Pope Gregory III switched All Hallows Day from May 13 to November 1 to align closely to the pagan Celtic holiday of Sumrain. The traditions and ideology of Sumrain took hold soon afterward in the Christian community. The Celtic religion came from Ireland, but it also had strong communities in the Roman Catholic countries of Great Britain and France. What do we know of this religion of the Celts?
The celts observed November 1 as the first day of their new year. It marked the end of summer and the end of the harvest. It marked the beginning of winter as a cold and dark period when more people than usual died. They believed the false belief that the last day of the year was a time when the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead became blurred. They believed the ghosts (spirits) of the dead returned to earth to walk among the dead. These ghosts came from the dark side.
They called this day Sumrain, and it is credited as the origin of present-day Halloween or All Hallows Eve. Sumrain is the name of a powerful and special demon from Hell who is called up for this day. Sumrain could only rise up to earth when summoned by two powerful witches who performed blood sacrifices for three consecutive days, the final one being on the harvest festival of October 31. As he was released from Hell, the spirits of dead people were also released to roam upon earth on the same day, October 31, in the darkness of the evening. It is the “eve” of the Christian church’s holy day (hallowed day) of November 1.
When we (in ignorance) celebrate Halloween, we unknowingly are celebrating the rise of the “demon god” Sumrain. Should we as Christians observe a holiday of such origin? Even when done in ignorance, it still has possibilities of opening a window to our soul. A volitional act has consequences regardless of whether we understand it. Today all Hallows Eve is the highest “holy” day of witches and wiccans. They still perform blood sacrifices. Young “missing children” often are sacrificed by them. This “unholy” holiday is all about the shedding of innocent blood.
So, should Christians have anything to do with Halloween even if it is done in ignorance? The answer is a definite no. This would include trunk or treat which is a cheap substitute but still being held on the same day as Halloween. We need to teach our children biblical truths my friends. We are taught in Deuteronomy not to even allow a witch to live, so why would we celebrate anything that has to do with witchcraft? We should not. Now, each of us has the right to choose which path to take in every aspect of life.
In conclusion, let us remember Ephesians 5:11 that says, “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
I pray that when it concerns the “devil’s” night that you will choose not to participate. I made that choice years ago when I learned the truth. I pray you will too.
