I'm committed to school safety, and this session the legislature passed SB1265, the "SAFE TO LEARN ACT". This piece of legislation was crafted from four separate bills which got their start on my desk, plus some components from Gov. Hogan's bill.
There are a lot of questions about exactly what's in the bill, how it was drafted, and how we got it moving in the Senate.
The bill has 3 major purposes:
1. Mental and Behavioral Health in Schools
2. Organizational changes to MD Center for School Safety
3. Security Measures in Schools
