Georgetown East Gateway Ribbon Cutting
On Tuesday morning, Representative Ruth Briggs King, Senator Ernie López, and I joined Sussex County Councilmen Mike Vincent, Doug Hudson, John Rieley, U.S. Senator Tom Carper, and DelDOT officials for the Georgetown East Gateway ribbon cutting at the CHEER Center in Georgetown. The improved intersection and roadways will greatly enhance traffic safety in the area. Thank you to everyone who helped make the project possible and for putting together today's event!
Affordable Connectivity Program
The internet has quickly become a necessity, especially during and in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Access to reliable broadband internet can be expensive and, to some, unaffordable, particularly during this time of high inflation and fuel costs.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has created the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) that will allow eligible households to receive up to a $30 per month discount on internet service. Please visit fcc.gov/acp to learn more about the program and AffordableConnectivity.gov to enroll.
King's Ice Cream's 50th Anniversary
Last month, Senator Ernie Lopez, Representative Smyk, and I presented King's Ice Cream with a tribute celebrating their 50th anniversary. Their business is a staple in Milton and I make it a point to stop by whenever I'm in town!
First 2022 Delaware Evidence of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Detected in DNREC’s Sentinel Chickens
Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), a mosquito-transmitted disease, has been detected in Delaware the first time for 2022 in a sentinel chicken, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control announced today. Mosquito-transmitted virus detections in DNREC’s sentinel chickens are unrelated to Delaware’s poultry industry.

The EEE finding in northern New Castle County was from a sentinel chicken station sampled by the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife Mosquito Control section and confirmed by the Delaware Public Health Laboratory Aug. 9. While there have been no reported EEE cases in humans this year in the state, Delawareans are reminded that the possibility of contracting mosquito-transmitted diseases, including EEE and West Nile Virus (WNV), will continue until colder autumn temperatures in late-October or later.
