As many of you know, we joined many Florida professionals and students in an unplanned Zoom skip day. Much of the information I was planning on sharing is included in this email. More will be following in a video soon to be sent. Please check out the content below and click on actionable links.

LOOKING FORWARD TO FLORIDA'S 20-21 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Several things are still in play with regard to our engagement next legislative session.

The General Election November 3rd will determine who we advocate to.

The Grant Review work of the Division of Cultural Affairs, you & your peer panelists and the Florida Arts Council is ongoing. Our 20-21 Platform will be finalized after that work is completed and recommendations are made official.

There is, however, a general timeline.

  • Specially scheduled statewide call: Advocacy 101 in partnership with Arts Business Miami, Florida Cultural Alliance and Americans for the Arts. This will be the first of three advocacy focused webinars. Invitation forthcoming.
September 28:
  • Regularly scheduled statewide call. Status report on Florida Candidates' Survey responses, DCA grants & critical issues.
October 26:
  • Statewide Call: Allies in Advocacy combining Florida's forces.

WHAT OUR MEMBERS ARE DOING
Alachua: Dance Alive National Ballet opened auditions for its 55th season production of The Nutcracker and their Next Generation youth group this weekend! They will host their first public event of the season, Meet the Dancers September 25th.

Broward: Bonnet House Museum and Gardens has been celebrating 100 years since June and will do so through February 2021 by paving the way to preservation with their Coral Stone campaign.

The 102 year old Old Davie School Historical Museum will begin it's Step-Back-in-Time After School Session on September 17 and run for 10 weeks (until November 19)...all the while providing tours of the historic property and making it available as a venue for photographic and film projects.

Duval: Cathedral Arts Project will commence a series of courses under the heading of Arts as Therapy September 8. Three classes are "Sensory Scouts", sensory-based art therapy for 6-8th grade individuals with autism and their caregivers, "Art as Coping" for any 3rd-5th grade who need a creative outlet when processing daily challenges and emotions and "Empowered Women Empower Women" a strengths-based program focusing on exploring what it means to be a young woman today for 9th-12th graders.
