DAVID – PART 3

OUR GOD DELIVERS

Goliath challenged Israel to a man-on-man fight. None of the frightened Israeli soldiers dared accept the challenge.

The Spirit of God had departed from king Saul. God had a new king in mind that would be after God’s own heart. He sent Samuel to anoint a young shepherd boy to be king. He was the youngest of Jesse’s sons. David was taken from his flock and sent by his father to his brothers in Saul’s army. They were with king Saul on the battlefield, facing the Philistine army and Goliath, the giant warrior. Goliath was over nine feet tall and was openly defying and cursing the God of Israel. None of King Saul’s best soldiers dared to take the challenge.

As David arrived, he was greatly incensed by Goliath’s cursing of Jehovah. He rebuked Saul’s soldiers for doing nothing about Goliath. David’s brother rebuked David in return, as he was probably jealous that Samuel had chosen David and not him. He then told David to go back home and take care of the sheep.

Word of this encounter got back to King Saul, who then called David, who the king knew. [1 Samuel 16:19-23]. Saul gave David permission to fight Goliath and tried to clothe him in his armor that did not fit David. Instead, David fought Goliath with the armor of God, [the anointing on him] a slingshot, and a few stones. Goliath fell at David’s hand.

God, through the faith of His anointed servant David, delivered the entire host of the enemy into Israel’s hands.

God will also deliver you from your adversary when you stand your ground in faith. Faith, with prayer, is your greatest weapon wielded in the Name of Jesus. Isaiah 54:17 says, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper…” Psalm 149:6-9 tells us that our praises to God will destroy every adversary and will deliver us from evil or harm. Verse 9 says that every believer has this protection and authority over evil.

Deliverance belongs to us through the Name of Jesus. Believe it and exercise your authority. David believed it and killed a bear, a lion, and the giant by his hand. You can do it also.

Like David, you can defeat your enemies also.

DON’T WEAR SOMEONE ELSE’S ARMOR

King Saul had lost the anointing because of his sin, and David was anointed to be king. It was not David’s time to take the throne yet, because God had to season him. One thing that we know is that David had the anointing of the Lord upon him the moment Samuel, the priest/prophet/judge anointed him.

After this time with Samuel, David was called to King Saul’s home. Saul was tormented with demonic forces and the only thing that calmed them was when David played his harp and sang anointed music. This calmed the demons in the king. How many times and for how long he stayed, we are uncertain, but the king knew David from this time.

David had gone back home and still tended to his father’s sheep while his older brothers were with King Saul fighting a battle with the Philistines. When David’s father sent David to bring his brothers some food, it was then that David saw the entire Hebrew army frozen in fear because of Goliath, the giant. 

Day after day Goliath had cursed God’s people and challenged them to battle. Because the once anointed king no longer had the anointing on him, the people did not have a leader that could hear from God anymore. 

When David showed up and saw the situation, the Spirit of God rose up in him and he said he would take care of the situation. King Saul tried to put his armor on David to fight Goliath, but David said no. 

Unbeknownst to Saul and the rest of his army, David already had armor on. It was the armor of God; the anointing of God that destroys yokes and removes burdens. Isaiah 10:27b says, “…and the yoke [bondage] shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” David spent hours in the presence of God, and the Holy Spirit’s presence was on him constantly.

When the anointing of God, which is the presence of the Holy Spirit upon you, then you are in God’s armor. We should never try to win a battle in someone else’s armor, because it just will not “fit” us.

David went forth in that armor and won the battle, and you will too. [See Ephesians 6:10-18] There is nothing that defeats the enemy like the Christian clothed in the anointing with the armor of God. 

Do not try to clothe yourself in someone else’s armor because it will not get the job done.

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

God sees the finished work in you before it is done. Give him time to bring it to pass. His plan is so wonderful that it takes more than a few days for him to put it all together! Besides if you saw the "rough edges" before the finished work you might not want to keep going.

Friday Thought For Today

As a child I grew up with a lot of fear because I was afraid of my father. It has taken years to understand that God was a God of love. My actions were many times coming from a place of fear and never from love. Our past is engrained into us. There are many things that we have to surrender to God so that He can bring healing into our hearts and minds. He wants to replace that stony heart for a heart of love. All that God has done has been from a position of love. Today as you think about your past, remember your today and future are rooted in God’s love.

"Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.“

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

You may as well ACCEPT the FACT that; It's high time to stop blaming your past, your pain and people for where and what you are in life today. Now you need to REALIZE that you and YOU alone can CHANGE your CIRCUMSTANCES! So by FAITH try to take some baby steps TOWARDS your healing and then on to your destiny. Just know that it will START with YOU taking those first few steps; And then you WILL be catapulted into a giant LEAP of FAITH. Remember this kind of FAITH not only CHANGES your PRESENT; But it WILL also CHANGE your FUTURE. However, it ONLY comes as you sincerely FORGIVE those who’ve HURT you along life's road of life. Just keep in mind that any suppressed BITTERNESS and UNFORGIVENESS; Can and it most often WILL end up giving YOU physical and deep emotional pain. Oh, and don’t forget that it usually makes a person OLD before their time! So start today by ADMITTING your part (small or large) in the mess that has happened and sometimes caused you much PAIN. Just know as YOU do this and from your HEART totally FORGIVE and FORGET; Then you WILL soon be well on your WAY to a totally changed LIFE and without a doubt…YOU will really LOVE the CHANGE…And then before long you’ll be breaking out singing Oh Happy Day and Look What The Lord Has done!
