Join the Social Justice Committee of Falls Church & Vicinity, an initiative of Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation, as we stand with
Silent Witness Against Racial Injustice
Friday, July 31 - 5:00 - 6:00 PM
The Social Justice Committee of Falls Church & Vicinity, an initiative of THHF, will join Falls Church Presbyterian and Falls Church Episcopal as the faith-based communities and their neighbors continue the Silent Witness Against Racism on Friday, July 31, 5-6 PM, along Broad Street (Route 7). We will stand in honor of the lives and legacies of the Honorable John Lewis and the Rev. C.T. Vivian who both died July 17.

John Lewis  and  C.T. Vivian  were masters of causing “good trouble” in fighting racism during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Lewis was one of the “Big Six” leaders of the Movement as chairman of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee from 1963 to 1966, and an organizer and speaker for the March on Washington in 1963. Vivian was a Baptist minister and in the inner leadership circle of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He directed 85 chapters of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in its efforts to expand voting rights and conduct community development projects.

Each man, in his way, epitomized the core non-violent principles of the Civil Rights Movement. Each was violently beaten on many occasions by law enforcement and angry mobs in the struggle to extend the same voting, economic, political, and social rights to Black Americans, yet they continued in their commitment to non-violence and stood fast in their pursuit of what was right and just. Our Silent Witness Against Racial Injustice honors their commitment to non-violence and calls for equality and justice.   ~~~
