THE EARTH’S FULLNESS
Psalm 24:1 says,
“The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”
All of the fullness of the earth belongs to God; the grass, the trees, the cattle, the dogs and cats, the grapes, the beans and lettuce, everything belongs to its creator. The whole world belongs to Him.
“They that dwell therein”
means every person belongs to Him, their creator. He has first claim to everyone whether they serve Him or not. Many do not serve Him because Satan has stolen them. That is a person’s free will choice. Repentance and faith on Jesus reconciles or restores them to their rightful “owner” creator.
An example that demonstrates this is found in the book of Jonah 3:10 and Chapter 4. God’s plan was to destroy the large city of Nineveh of the war-like empire of Assyria. Jonah preached to these idolatrous people. They repented and turned to God and God spared them.
Jonah, after preaching, went outside the city and built himself a temporary shelter. He was planning to wait there to watch and see what God was going to do to the city. He wanted to personally witness its’ destruction. While waiting a large gourd vine suddenly and miraculously sprung up and grew in a single day to provide Jonah extra shade from the sun.
When the morning came, God sent a worm to destroy the vine, a vicious east wind arose, and the sun beat down on Jonah so badly that he grew extremely faint and wished to die. Jonah had gotten very angry at God for sparing Nineveh from destruction. He was wroth that God had destroyed the protective gourd. God asked Jonah in 4:9 (NKJV)
“Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?”
Jonah replied (paraphrased)
God rebuked Jonah in 4:10-11. God said (my paraphrase)
“Why shouldn’t I spare 120,000 people who couldn’t tell right from wrong? Oh, by the way, I also spared much cattle who would have also perished.”
Yes, God also cared about the cattle. They were His, also. This shows He cares about every living creature, the dogs, cats, goldfish, rabbits, the lions, etc., which are His creations as well as us. Yes, we are His top priority, the love of His soul. But all these others are also precious to Him.
Have you ever lost a dear pet? God also loved that pet. He has them; they are not forgotten by you or by Him.
